so i replaced the stepper motor but im still stuck in limp mode (4th gear really isnt much fun. dont like putting that much pressure on the gearbox either). i assumed the computer would no longer jump into limp mode once i replaced the part was i wrong. or does that indicate the problem isnt with the stepper motor (just to recap. the engine was idling rough. unplugged the stepper motor. no rough idle. but she went into limp mode. made sense as i had disconnected the stepper motor.. i thought i located the problem)

helps control the idle. like say the car's running and you turn the AC on. that puts a light load on the engine. rev's will drop. stepper motor kicks in and compensates

So I had a fuel leak. One of the fuel lines above the intake manifold was in bad condition Replaced that hose, and a few others that looked like they could be replaced. Put everything back together. Triple checked the hose clamps were nice n tight etc. Started the car.. after a while it started idling roughly. Triple checked everything again (and everything that I didn't even touch). Was all good. Workmate (fulltime mechanics where i work.. this one also owns an e39 so i asked his opinion) suggested unplugging the stepper motor. It was on its way out anyway.. but never gave me any trouble. Tried unplugging it. Idles fine. Rev's drop a little under load.. but thats to be expected. I've tried flushing the stepper motor with spirits. Gave it a good clean.. to no avail Right now I'm having to run her without the stepper motor. Stays stuck in 4th gear, which I'm assuming is due to not having the stepper motor hooked up. Not too fond on driving till I find a replacement. But I do have a job so oh well :/ Any ideas. Or anyone on here have one for sale ? (seen a few people constantly trying to sell parts on this board )

haha good pics.. billboard wins and that m3 doesnt look half bad that colour.. do the rest of the interior xD have you seen what eggs do to a car f**ks the paintjob up once it bakes in the sun (if its a hot day and you let it sit long enough) the shells scratch it to hell.. but they're not deep so a buff can get those out takes a fair effort to recover from though

We have a grooming/detailing center where I work. Inside the car.. vacuum the floors and seats. Soak a rag in water.. squeeze it dry, then spray ArmorAll on it generously. Wipe all surfaces including the door cards, dashboard, centerconsole. Everywhere practically. Except for the rim of the steering wheel. Buy a paintbrush (like what.. $2 ?).. new/unused is always better. Roughly 1 1/2inches of bristles wide. Use it as a duster for the airvents and anywhere that isnt practical to get at with a cloth (all the nooks and crannies). Windows.. just use regular window cleaner, inside and out with a clean cotton cloth to wipe dry. As for the surfaces scratches. Pay someone to buff the car. If you dont know how to buff.. I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. Learning can take time/experience. And ruining a car (burning the paint.. making it peel etc) is a rite of passage for buffing haha Hopefully someone in your area can recommend a place for you

Any Bumpers/Lips for a 4dr e36 in grey (not silver)? thanks
-
thanks that helps a bunch ill give em a call lol.. i dont exactly race it.. but i did change the fluid when i replaced a brake hose.. just never mentioned it
-
lol @ those caliper covers xD
-
probably right.. when i had her up on the hoist most of last week i didnt bother checking the brakes just wanted to make sure i had the springs/shocks and other small things done so i could have her for the weekend judging by what you guys are saying about OEM pads. im gonna take a guess that whatever pads are on there atm are some cheap sh*t the previous owner put on just to pass WOF through my work (we get discounts) i can get new discs $38 and pads $8 most likely cheap sh*t though. will call a few places and look around tomorrow.. ..if anyone cares xD
-
blatant show off attitude xD i never said i was on the streets. but all prejudices aside (feel like im living in the states again) ill look at performance brake pads.. thanks guys didnt know the OEM pads had such a reputation. but since i only just bought the car and considering the condition i bought it in. theres quite a bit i want to upgrade. and brakes just happened to be next on the list
-
Well I lowered my car and put new shocks on over this last week (replaced a brake hose too but thats irrelevant). Now im turning to the brakes. Simple bolt-on upgrades would be nice. As the only time I get to work on my car is during smoko and any day I get off work early (theres a mechanic workshop onsite where I work.. I'm friends with them). Im running factory 15s. Theres nothing wrong with the factory brakes now. I know she's a heavy machine. But slowing down from 160kph+ takes alot longer than im content with. Any recommendations or advice ?

e36 ? or what.. my e36 the idle control valve is pretty sh*t.. prolly need a new one guy i work with (mechanic workshop) said to clean it out.. might have lotsa carbon in it.. didnt work for me.. you could try it though.. with some spirits or the like i guess it is capable of running without.. but if they revs dropped too low the engine could stall or maybe if you turned the AC on while turning a corner and braking.. the revs could drop low enough to stall xD my bet would be you have one tho
