I think the problem is it starts with a lot of us who have the information and been here so long you get a little bit jaded and just stop reading these sorts of threads. Even when you do you cant be bothered arguing with people, or telling people to try a certain way of doing things for them to only go off and do something else. It actually gets a little bit rude. And its not a respect thing. If you had someone do that in real life you would just mark them as a time waster. So the same thing happens to happen here. Most of the people I help these days are people I have gotten to know and actually spent time with outside of bimmersport. Ive stopped listing what im good at because it just invites silly PMs. Generally I operate on referal from some one like Ray.
It also doesnt help when the person doesnt give a proper problem discription. This guy has so he got great qaulity help as it allow tom to work backwards from some information given.
I do understand that people arent as technical, but problem solving isnt always about being technical .. infact most times not. Its about describing the problem properly coming up with all of the scenarios resisting the urgent to make assumptions and testing the hell / prooving your theories methodically.
Just some ramblings from a jaded bimmersporter
Good observation Josh - your comments times 100 for USA forums - I have been following a guy on M3Forum who has a DIY on a vanos rebuild and he is just plain wrong in his method - yet he has a huge following and a significant number of "failed followers" - I chipped in briefly but got slammed and backed out - our forum is incredibly better in this regard - we are smaller but we are also kiwi's I think - anyway back to mondo's issue and yes Tom rules as do Ray, yourself and a number of out other core members

Brilliant - has there been a build thread on this - if so I am not paying attention - if not lots more photos and detail please

Is this a CD player???

Yes - correct - I just loved the CSL though - the CF and alcantara trim combination is awesome - better that I save up and make you that offer one day - cheers Tom

Hey Tom - so I could I get away with this on my 6MT - and if I could would an amount of your Alcantara material be available for reworking my gearshift and handbrake gators?
-
Brought a little VW Polo for "her at home" cause I didn't like the M3 doing short runs in sub zero temperatures for coffee in town - then brought cambelt kit and various filters ex Ebay UK - made payment on July 4th - dispatched on that day at 13:54 PM, EDINBURGH - and had them in hand July 8th at 9:30 am - you must be doing it wrong

Great looking car - never been there but feel like an E39

Here is a section of a recent responce from TR re costs
Regarding customs, Duties, Taxes, and Brokerage fees, you would be responsible for these when you receive your merchandise and payment of these fees would be directly to your shipper. Now that you have your quote, you can check with your local Federal Express office to see what the charges would be.

Is this going anywhere Tom - shame to see an opportunity like this fade away
-
Love that gray interior
-
not really.
they are just going to manufacturer them somewhere else (world car program) and Aus will just import them with a few minor local changes. IE - The Falcon will just be a rebadged Taurus or they drop the Falcon badge altogether.
Mind you this might not be a bad thing. I hired an Ford Edge whilst in Canada last year. I loved it.
(now I feel all dirty for saying I liked a Ford).
I saw a few of these in Vancouver 2 weeks ago and they looked great - much better than the pic's (sh*t - did I say that - now I feel dirty too)

Update:
The 330d euro short shifter (30% reduction) paired with the ZHP shift knob can be had for less than half the cost of the AutoSolutions SSK. In addition to this, install is also an hour give or take (as far as I can tell)
Here it is:
If it doesn't meet expectations, will take it on the chin and get the AS SSK in future, otherwise could prove a great option for other M3 owners.
I'll also be pairing it with the UUC Dual Sheer Selector Rod to reduce lateral movement when in gear.
($150NZD)
I brought a BMW unit ex Turners US - it is great - don't know if the selector rod would make it that much better - must be fairly difficult to fit. As for 1 hour - I may have done it wrong but I removed the exhaust to get at the selector rod clip - the youtube video missed this step

This is a very generous offer Tom and one which the community needs to take seriously - I don't have the skills needed but would be keen to contribute to developing this up into a conversion kit for M3 owners - count me in - in one form or another

Hi ,new member and great to be on board - we have a 125 Coupe and 2 x 911's ,but will be looking to replace 1 with an E30M3 in the very near future for tarmac events.
Have had E36/E46 Coupes and 3 series sedans over recent years.
Have just posted new topic on assistance on speedo KPH conversions for late model UK import.
Big welcome but photos please!!!!

Thanks
Yes, it was. I don't think $40K was a realistic price.
I'm hoping to bring this to a standard where it can hold a candle to yours!
Lower km's + Estoril Blue + your plans = you win
Great to see the increasing numbers of E46 M3's on this forum - need a meet somewhere - Tom suggested an NZ event to celebrate the CSL anniversary – should do
-
Done deal at 50 then!
I'd really want to see the pictures of that "good" CSL for 30GBP. Will get them to send over, it's the middle of the night there, they will respond tomorrow.
$50K - I don't think so - Tom kindly took me for a spin last weekend - the intake sound was to kill for - your $50 + $10 ;-)
-
Thanks it was one of the selling points hehe
Beautiful - I have never seen this colour in the flesh but imagine it is pretty special - noticed that the sellers price expection dropped a bit as time went on - -was the deal done "with a 3 in front of it'?

I haven't worked worked out how to reply to multiple comments:
- Thanks to all for kind words (OCD is not something to be ashamed of but the wheel centre thing is OTT)
- She's steel grey
- Lock nuts are in the plan but agree with Ethrty-Andy, don't park it where the wheels are at risk
- Tristan. The AE fit was RS, spent a fair bit of time on forums and these came up best. In relatity they don't hang on by much and they interfere with the auto levelling (you can adjust for this but not real good). Tom doesn't get the LED thing going on at the moment and (with regard to this "upgrade") I probably agree
- Tom if you ever want your CSL detailed then I am in (but I deal in rough diamonds- your car is perfect and I have nothing to add)
- Mpulsive, you would be surprised how little it takes to get the undersides right. Completely un-necessary of course but not tough
- Christian, glad now (although fretted for a while) that you declined my offer on your rims
-
I couldn't resist it when Tom put a set of his rims up and then couldn't stomach fitting my worn PS2 rear tyres. Full set of P Zero's later and some rim TLC and I am very happy with the result. Not completely sure about the Angel eyes (Umnitza) as the fit was not very good at all and they are a bit "out there". DICE unit fitted while I was at it (having trouble with photos)
-
Yes - completely ok I reckon doing this with the seats in place - cover carpets and consoles (etc) as the cleaning process is a bit messy but the dye application is not. I would recommend cleaning with a Lux flakes solution then a wipe down with meths. If there are any rough patches a light rub with 1200 grit sandpaper is good (steer clear of the stiching). After this 2-3 light coats of dye will get you there - very rewarding.

Withdrawn from sale - I was looking at buying another (very low km) E46 M3 but took some advice from a well respected BS member and some of the comments in this thread.
Some on here will know this car and the work I have done on it (search maintenance and appearance forums for threads showing work carried out). I am looking to on-sell very quickly in order to purchase another vehicle. Details are
NZ new 09/02 M3 manual in Steel Grey with 108K on the clock
Purchased 07/11 for $35K and since has had $8K spent on maintenance and detailing
Paintwork looks great but has an of fine stone chips (I would still rate it as a 7 out of 10 for condition and I am a fussy sh*t)
19’ wheels (no curbing) running Michelins PS2’s (front 90%, rears 30% left)
Con rod bearings (and bolts) changed recently along with all fluids, filters and belts. Vanos stripped and checked (i.e. oil pump drive tabs and cam bolts). Valve adjustment also completed. There was no compelling reason for the bearing change etc but I wanted this car to be as mint as I could get it (and I spend too much time on M3 Forum getting paranoid)
The underside of the car has been completely detailed (wheel wells painted (base + clear), plastic parts cleaned and painted, exhaust, suspension arms and front brace plate polished. Most bolts either replaced (critical ones) or galvanised
Diff seals replaced. Drive shaft hub seals were weeping slightly, input shaft seal also replaced although no real need
All brake pads replaced (rotors are good). Brake calipers painted body colour and clips chromed
Power steering hose replaced
Wheel spacers (certified) fitted front and rear
Interior is very clean, drivers seat has had the seat base and bolsters (base and backrest) reupholstered. The centre console/oddments tray has been replaced (new) and all other soft plastic is in 9/10 condition. BMW short shift kit has been fitted.
All codes clear
Windscreen replaced by previous owner 10K ago,
All receipts for above available, 2 keys, full service history
Cash price = $33K.
PM me if you are intereted. The car I am chasing is probably going to sell quickly, if it goes I will be pulling this car off the market, only advertizing on Bimmersports.

Replaced (with a lot of help - in fact, I was more of a spectator) the drive shaft coupling and air-con unit bearing - an issue identified by Tom (M3_Power)!
Contemplating vanos seal replacement but in no massive hurry. Certainly can't do it myself.
Tom rocks
