I had that a few weeks back, they even put a bid in after me assuming I would keep bidding. I didn't. The "other buyer" won the auction. But wouldn't you know it, that same day the seller contacted me saying the "other buyer" didn't make contact. Was actually to my advantage as I offered him less than what I would have paid and he accepted it knowing well that the item had been relisted for 8 weeks and I was the only real bidder.

I have over 5,000 sales on trade-Me and can say out of that 5,000 plus sales I could count on one hand how many "question askers" actually follow through, the conversion is so low I could only recall two in the past 5 years.

Real buyers do their own homework, read the descriptions properly and if still in doubt, call me on the phone. Remember than next time your two Export Golds deep and decide to ask if that 2017 AMG E63 you cant afford has had its cambelt done.

  2. Black E34 M5 Rotorua Countdown (the skyline side of town) on Sun. Not sure if it was a legit M5 or just badged as I was trying to leave the car park with people behind me and it was parked between other cars so hard to tell aside from the badge if the other bits were there. Plus the owner was filling her up with bags of groceries so I didn't want to stare lol. Was def looking like a daily driver - if it's legit, that'd be nice to drive on the daily...

Given a red coupe with no wof or rego, rust, blown M10, auto, went for $8500 in the last couple of weeks, I think you're wrong.  Basically a tidy rolling coupe is now worth $8-10k.  A tidy four cylinder coupe is asking around $15-25k.  You've been claiming the e30 market is over-valued for years; can't understand why yours is not offered at a price that supports your argument!?

Pics or it never happened. Lol. In all seriousness tho - that's old torana, falcon rolling shell craziness... Maybe I should sell the touring (its a project car atm - so yea, no reg/wof currently) with the 5 x 15s with caps hahaha

    Liquid assets!

The good stuff will sell within hours at the below prices

Set of weaves in decent nick $2000-2500

Mtech 1 385mm $500 (no, not $2,400 like the one on TM)

    MTech 2 370mm $1000-$1200

    Good sport seats UNOBTANIUM

Not to thread jack here but are weaves going for this price? I saw some on TM 5 or 6 months ago (14s) and they had something like a 1K price range. I was thinking, good luck with that (recalling that people were struggling to sell them for $400 bucks 5 or so years ago). But seeing your quote here, maybe I should see what the market says for a 5 x 15s....

@BLACK DORIS and as soon as it's roadworthy, get in touch.  I'm getting an article together for BMW DIXI magazine, need a Wellington-based e30 Touring to complete the lineup.  Writing and photography Mid-Nov to early December 2020 for the Summer Issue (published late Jan).

Hey Olaf, apols - just updated profile. We were Welly based but have been permanently in Rotorua for the last few years.

Well ballpark if it was registered would be around the 15k mark.

The rust, while a concern doesn't seem to be too bad in the scheme of things.

And the faults you've listed sounds like just some general e30 love is required.

I must admit I am keen on the rear seats.

    Cheers

Thanks Nick, have been popping into your touring thread from time to time - looks awesome. In the 10 years I've owned the car, I've yet to see another touring with leather rear seats.

  7. Hey Bimmersport -it's been a while!

Apols in adv, this may be in the wrong forum/section. Also, it may be a longish post.

As per title, looking for feedback on what kind of value my 88 e30 Touring may be worth. UK import (came in in the 90s I think). I've owned her for the last 10 years and she's done 239,846 miles, so just run in. B)

Long story but due to house, health and work related issues the wagon sadly lapsed it's rego/wof about 18 or so months ago. Intention was to leave in garage and get things sorted over time but a few things have changed and I may be letting her go.

Had a recent enquiry about selling to a mate but I'm not sure what it would be worth as an unregistered/wof'd vehicle. Having said that, it's still a tidy vehicle. Hoping the community could help with what a ballpark value would be - as is, where is.

    The good -

Hellrot Red, 325i, factory manual, LSD, lowered slightly (tastefully, msport-esque) on Bilstien shocks,  SE spoiler kit and lip, Full Leather interior (incl rear seats and doorcards) with recaro front seats, 15" weaves with centre caps, rear tints, service history (well, a lot of it). Even has the little flashlight in the glovebox (not going) and the cargo screen cover for the rear (is functional).

It's still running - quite well actually. Had to get a new battery but then she fired up first time, idles steady and comes up to temp as per normal. Brakes are spongy af (even more than normal) but it had been sitting a while (started but not driven, well not far...). Gears change smoothly, clutch good/solid.

    The (known) issues -

It's an 88 e30 so there's a few quirky things the car has but there's a couple of rust issues that don't look great.

Biggest one is on the tailgate, under/along the rear window. About 10cm wide at the surface. From what I've read a common area on touring models and hadn't been a wof issue. There are also a couple of small (1 - 2cm) spots coming up on the roof at rear above the window.

Engine/gearbox - running well considering. Never had any major issues during my ownership and still pulls hard, changes smoothly. Would def need an oil change, plugs etc and a good look over in general.

Tyres - still like new and about 4mm tread all round. Rims could use a tidy up, bit of brake dust etc settled in over time (PIA getting into those weaves...)

Cosmetic blemishes - clear coat peel on front and rear bumpers, a few stone chip marks to bonnet and car parking dings on side of car (from other vehicles, mainly ute doors), headlight cracked (stone again), seat leather marks (from previous owner, poss dog scratches) but just on the seat area. The backs are mint. Drivers seat leather has a few cracks/wear. Again on the seat area. Hairline crack on dash starting to appear.

Couple of faulty sensor lights that come on/off intermittently, electric mirror fault (works, then blows fuse, rinse repeat), driver door lock broken (thanks Drop and Drive...) but still central locks from rear lock. Sunroof is opening up but not back, if that makes sense. The quirks I mentioned...

Probably forgetting a couple of things but that's most of it.

And then there's the obvious derego/wof situation.

Attached are a couple of pics from today - disclaimer, they were done in a hurry for this post so a bit rubbish but give an idea of some of the above items. Could add more if needed but guessing that the info is more important and everyone here knows what an e30 looks like. Lol.

Haven't been following the e30 market for a few years now so not really sure where things are at. Interested to see what advice/insights the community has. Cheers!

Tidied things up enough, and went out for a track day at Hampton downs on the Club Circuit
    IMG_20170716_151709.thumb.jpg.1781126a74c29fbb90d5eb820c8bc330.jpg

Sadly no videos or photos of it in action as I went by myself.
    Learnt a few things
-My 3-4 year old tyres aren't really up to the job
-You get thrown around a lot in the stock sports seats
-Power isn't everything on the small track. The little 1.8l MX5 fell behind me on the small straights, but was right up my behind every corner.
-Brakes weren't up to the challenge
Found that after a few runs by brake pedal was feeling a bit spongy, so called it a day.

So with that under my belt, I was keen for some more track time.
I went along to the E30 Race Series scholarship day to see what racing was all about.
Ended up starting the day in a hot lap in an E30, which within a few minutes of the track opening had managed to flip itself in the sand.
Fortunately everyone was alright. Cages are there for a reason.
After that lovely incident I hopped into an E46 M3 for a hot lap, and tried not to sh*t myself in a car with double the HP.
At the end of the day, had a new appreciation for racing, as the guys race very closely.

Then the rest of the year was pretty uneventful.
Wof guy noted that my exhaust was rubbing on my rear subframe.
    IMG_20170819_173454.thumb.jpg.70701f32e2f8090ad3f06c45b7c16eb6.jpg

Tried to tweak the angle a bit, but it's still an issue.

My central locking unit decided that it didn't want to talk to my remotes.
I found that during this, someone had replaced the drivers door lock with another one, and didn't swap over the tumblers.
So meant I had to lock/unlock passengers side until the lock rebuild kit arrived.
    orca-image-1504000342652.jpg_1504000342901.thumb.jpg.b01b3154a8d9f975d44c64e1e93cf359.jpg

Had to take out the passengers lock to get the initial key combo (and I took the ignition barrel out for good measure)
    IMG_20170830_205046.thumb.jpg.ee3d0ff539195cf430ab5a98df70f82a.jpg

So with the first 8? (I've forgotten) tumblers matched up to the passenger door lock, I just made up 3 remaining tumblers for the rest of the drivers door lock, as they are used for the deadlock function.
Got a key cut to the tumbler codes, and everything worked smoothly (including glovebox), so pretty happy with that.

Firstly, awesome work on the project. Nice! Secondly, how crazy was the lock replacement/repair - for non mechanically minded owner with a busted drivers door lock (thanks long term parking guys at Akl airport...). Locking and unlocking from boot, central locking still functional. Thanks!

  9. Thre may be a thread about this car already but a quick search didn't throw anything up.

    https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1471669184&archive=1

    1 Bidder, sold for 11,990.00.

Not a dig at seller or buyer (well done to both) btw, just wondered if this was indicative of an unmolested example with service history etc.

My insurance renewal just came up. Maybe I'm a little underinsured...

  10. The painter that previously owned this car lived in Kilbrinie and I'd see this parked on the street with paint tins, drop sheets and all sorts of gear in the back all the time. It was his daily and work wagon which was kinda cool.

I've seen one other in Welly that was pampered, garaged, mint condition, black and manual. Not sure if it was NZ new though...

  11. Got back recently from a week in San Fran. Pleasantly surprised to see many older beemers in the central city. E28's, e30's, e34's, no 36's spotted but several e46 tourings and many late model tourers. Surprisingly not many SUV models. Saw a gold M4 which looked pretty epic. Shite load of late model mustangs. A few Tesla S's. Massive 4x4 work trucks that seem totally impractical for both carrying tools/equipment and parking...

  12. Hi all, not sure if this is the correct place for this post.  As per title, I'm looking for recommendations for a decent service and repair workshop in R'vegas.  Ideally with e30 experience.  I had been driving down to Welly fairly often last year so I could drop the car in for services while in town. Not expecting to drive down as much this year so looking for a local workshop. Cheers.

  13. Hi all, current og parts are in need of replacing. Muffler is the most problematic but wanting to do exhaust at the same time. Not looking for any drastic change in note or volume as the stock tone was fine by me. Numerous online fodder but hoping to find more user experience references/suggestions.  Are second-hand systems worth looking at (considering age etc) and would any e30 exhaust and muffler unit fit or would model and engine need to be matched. Thanks in adv. Rio

  14. See my project log here... from when I replaced my old belts.

    http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/48689-ac-schnitzer-e30-project-log/?p=586413

If your current belts are anchored through the floor then generic belts should work. If they're anchored to the seat then it's a bit of a different story. You'll need to remove the seat to get the old seatbelt stalk out too.

Thanks Mark, will check out the link. Had a quick look at the set up in mine and appears to be anchored at the base of the seat. Murphy's.

  15. Hey all, been a while.

Noob question here but wondered if any e30 owners know if most retractable seatbelt mechanisms from the early 90's will work/fit into an e30?

Very slight bit of fraying on the drivers side seatbelt of the wagon. Needs replacing for the wof so only today and tomorrow to source and replace before xmas.

There's one on TM but wondered if I could just use a seatbelt mechanism from any model vehicle of a similar era (1989/90). If so I'll just check out a local wreckers. (We're now living in RotoVegas...)

Thanks in adv and merry xmas.
