  1. I know a couple of guys that have had high value cars pro wrapped to a good standard in Auckland. Will see if I can get recommendations. Might also be worth PMing Tristan, I think he was looking into it for his E92 M3 so he may have done some research.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks - any recommendation will be welcome.

  2. I am fairly sure those clear lights were a "factory option" - it was during a period when clear tail lights were all the rage and BMW brought them out as an optional pacakge (wife was working there at the time and I remember seeing that car being sold new with those lights).

Correct - these were an option on E60 BMW's although I think they only became an option from LCI (I could be wrong there).

  3. Yeah I did a bit of research online and it seems powder coating the wheels seems to give it a thicker coat or so, however I'm open to any opinions on whether to powder coat or paint? I'll give the guys at wheelfixit a visit hear what they have to say.

have you been down this path with wheel refurbishing.. anything I should look out for?

    Thanks again

Earon - PM me your phone number and I will give you some info on this. I had my CSL wheels done and had to get a special paint that was used for CSL wheels.

  4. I was quoted between $3-3.5K for the Michelin PSS locally. Bought for $1,093US online + shipping to get here. Probably land for less than $2K NZ.

In early Dec I purchased a set of Michelin PSS for my F10 M5 (OEM Tyre). Quoted 4.3-4.5k in NZ. Landed incl freight and GST for about 2.6k.

I then purchased a set for another car I own that are quite big (rears are 335/30/20's). Landed for 2.8k. A friend owns a F40 and I purchased a set for him as well. Landed for under 2k.

Tire Rack are excellent and very good value for money - highly recommended.

  5. New owners of the cars purchased in NZ are being told apparently.

I think it was 6:47 or 6:48 on the rubber the car comes with. And 6:3?? on race tyres (prob semis).

The amount of down force this car produces is insane. So awesome.

I hate to disagree but I don't think the owners are being told this.

  6. Green hell? in older F1 car maybe. green heaven in the P1. [ i will keep an ear out n an eye peeled to see if a man who drives past my house everyday has a P1 to match his truly awesome F1?] [[ i wonder if i will get in trouble if i name him??]]

    I don't think he's got a P1 on order, but I could be wrong.

  7. I think when Walter Rohrl says: "the first car in my life that I drive and I feel scared"[/size]

    Porsche should have listened.

A car that's just waiting to kill you.

RIP Paul Walker. By all accounts a genuinely cool dude.

There's nothing wrong with the CGT. It is an amazing car to drive on the road and is actually very easy to drive even around town. The clutch can however be testing in stop start traffic.

A CGT does have traction control, however like a GT3 it steps in very late. At the end of the day there are plenty of fast super cars that kill if you are being stupid. F40, Enzo, Ford GT are just a few.

One of the big issues with cars like the CGT is that they hardly get used and you end up with a car that has 10 year old tyres that are very hard. That could have been the case in this crash? New tyres will make a big difference in driving something like a CGT.

  8. Well - I might just disagree with everyone here. I bought a new M3 in 2005. From that I went to a new M5 in 2009. The SMG in the M5 was 10 times better than the M3. I also now have a M3 CSL and the E60 SMG definitely blows the E46 CSL SMG away.

Fuel - well I drove mine around Napier with odd trips away. I did about 20km in 2 years. I found it averaged at about 19l/100km around town and 12-14 on the open road at 110 km/h.

Overall I loved the E60. The noise is amazing and it is very capable. I was sad to see it go, and some times even have crazy ideas about buying another one just to keep in the shed (I probably will when prices stop falling).

The cost of running one is a little unknown to me as I purchased new, however I did do a clutch under warrenty after 5km. This was however just after a track day with many launch controls and towing a 2.2 ton boat over the Napier to Taupo road, so maybe not all a car issue.....

I now have a F10 M5 and the new DCT transmission blows the old SMG away agin. The new M5 is bloody great........

When I went from M3 to M5 I felt the difference was quite big and comfort was a lot better in the M5. The E60 M5 has arguably the best ever M engine ever produced. The V10 was a fantastic piece of kit.

There are lots of stories about big bills, so if you do go the M5 make sure you can afford any issues etc down the track. Also i would suggest a very very good PPI from a BMW dealer..... Good luck!

  9. I look at it the other way Andy - if they are queer about things, or hard to get along with, then whats the odds I'll tip money outa my pocket into their dealership 'later on'?? As an eg; Local Mitsi dealer had over 100k outa me in 3 years, on 2 x new utes & servicing, & then they shafted me on some warrenty issues & a $600 bill which a independent 3rd party said 'was their workshops fault'. They then wouldn't 'play the game, or do 'what was right', so vehicle came outa the workshop for the last time @ 11 months old, & went straight onto Trade-me..........."You are the weakest link, Good-bye".

I wouldn't pi$$ on the local Misti dealer's doorstep to warm it up, & I'll never ever own any of their product again........... ;):)

Great post and so true. I had a similar (non car example). My business was spending 20-25K per month with Telecom. My son put my wife's mobile through the washing machine and when I asked Telecom for a replacement they said her usage didn't justify a free replacement, even though her phone was on my work account.

Long story short, Vodafone picked up a big client (250-300K PA) and my wife got a free phone.. Telecom begged and tried to get us back, but their initial attitude was so bad I said never again. The simple things eh........

  10. When I bought my first M3 in 2006 I had this issue. I worked with JG BMW in HB to resolve. What they did in the end was remove the tint on the dots and apply a solid black strip across the dots. It looked a lot better....

  11. It can be switched off on a Hilux, if you hold the switch in continuously for 5(secs), hold your tongue the right way, align the planets, & remember that it switches back 'on' again every-time you flick the key....they're a dog of a thing in standard form though IMO. And it restricts changing tyre sizes, installing lift kits etc as well, making them now about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike in 4WD conditions.....:(

Clive Matthew Wilson would think an ashtray on a motorbike was a good idea and a strong selling point.

  12. The values are certainly dropping!!

    Having owned a E60 M5, F10 535d and now a F10 M5 I can offer an insight.

The E60. Great car and a cool sound. In the end the SMG wears you down though around town. I also have a E46 M3 CSL and the CSL box is a lot worse, but on track it's great. Fuel wise I saw 17l per 100km on average.

The F10 535d was very good but boring. I liked it at first, but when the F10 M5 came out and I drove it I knew the 535d ownership would be short.

The F10 M5 is truly fantastic. To put it in perspective in the last 4 weeks I have probably driven 3-4,000 Km in it between Akl, Napier and Wellington. It is a great open road cruiser and a seriously fast car when required.

The F10 M5 is the best 4 door "sports" sedan out there I think. Fuel wise I see about 12l per 100km on average.

I do actually miss the E60 though. It was fun and the noise of the V10 at high revs was pure goodness.

At 40-50k the E60 make a lot of sense. The SMG will be OK if serviced well etc. remember these are built for huge mileage in Europe where 100km/60miles is nothing.

Now - I must head out and give the F10 M5 a spanking.

  13. Interesting, I would have thought the Grey will always be more sort over as its instantly recognizable as a CSL vs the black that could be any other run of the mill M3.

Either way the CSL will hold value over time, it may take a few years but it will surely go up in value, like any other collectible or lusted after model there will be a lull where the car looses some its appeal.

For an insurance company it must be hard to see that a 10 year old BMW 3 series is still worth that money, perhaps talk to a classic car insurance company, someone more specialized in collectible cars. You cant do too many kms a year so it would probably be quite cheap to insure.

    Tom,

Try Prestigio Insurance - I have a number of cars with them and my CSL is insured for 85K (agreed market value). Current km's are about 36Km (I think) and they provide cover for track days as well at no extra cost! Excess is $850, but a limit of 5,000Km travelled a year (no issue for me).
