  1. Great incites . thanks . maybe i should have said that take 5 cylinder out put the 4 back ! I did pay them for the valvetronic change out . Didn,t much think about the engine series at the time , cause its only done a genuine 55.5 k kms . What the hell be wrong with an engine thats had one owner and only done such low K,s ? Nevertheless , that motor was in a far worse state after they tinkered with "something " .in the cam chain area. Anyway , any advice as to what i am going to ask them when i turn up in the workshop monday ?
  2. I own a 2005 320 E90 . Its done 55,500 kms . recently an intermittent fault developed that was diagnosed as a faulty valvetronic motor and BMW changed it out for a new BMW part . Now , before the car was returned , "BMW" rang and said that they are not happy as to how the vehicle runs (subsequently ) and would like to track down if there was some other fault that was causing the engine to lose power . So, some days go by , and they contact me again , and say they think that maybe the cam chain had been "stretched " by the faulty valvetronic motor , and it was this that was causing the engine to loose power . Their fix for that issue was to do something that sounded like they tinkered with the cam chain tensioner by "replacing a bolt . They called me . Come get your car we think we have solved the problem , drivee it for the weekend and let us know . Well i drove it out of the dealership to do a round the block trip and take it home . Shortly into the drive warning lights cam up on the dash "the usual check engine light ' , then something that looked like an explanation mark and possibly and traction control symbol and then really quickly a noticeable miss , and plainly the engine was now running on 5 cylinders . I drove it straight back , with the alrm symbols up , and the engine running , and called them out of their workshop to fault find . Subsequently , i heard in muted conversation , that the cam chain cover "was too hot to even touch " . Shortly there after an offer to take a courtesy car home for the weekend was made . So i did that . Now , friends i am asking for your advice as to how to avoid being railroaded by BMW techs into believing somehow , that whatever has happened 'will be at my cost to fix " So , it occurs to me that whatever they have done has caused the cam chain to get hot . Could the cam chain now need replacing ? what else could be damaged ? what do i need to look for when i make a surprise visit back to their workshop on monday . Has anyone ever heard of the valvetronic motor causing a cam chain to stretch ? All advice and opinion welcome . cheers les
  3. This is a used imported part that I got into the country from England . It’s now not needed as the technician made a mistake in his advice as to what was needed . This part is the correct part for my yr 2000 E46 330ci cabriolet. You can check if it will fit yours by referencing the part numbers in the pic . The key number for my car was that number that ran as 358 375 444 …. I fitted the part and scanned it . It has no embedded faults and also reported ( correctly) what my fault was . ( a solenoid) Heads up …. These ecu are actually fairly reliable, if you have a roof fault it’s likely something else playing up . Having told you that . It’s still worth buying as a spare , cause you won’t get another anytime soon if you do need one . I know this as real world experience The trademe price is 200 dollars If you are interested , contact me , or make an offer from your phone in the mobile TM application . cheers les
  4. Looking for the all the help i can get to solve soft top issues . Do we have a guru of soft top issues ? Soft top will not godown ( or up ) My 330 ci scanned a switch 239 fault "open circuit or to ground " switch is under the hood compartment and closes when the compartment is down and open into the boot . Changed the switch , fault remained . Changed the CVM module swich fault now gone . But new fault now evident suggests the lid over the hood compartment has a faulty switch and now one of the hood open/close button continually flashing red led . Anyone recognise the symptons ? cheers les
  5. Hi, any idea what i,d be expecting ? Cause i was thinking if its actually "neon " maybe it has a high voltage boost or something? Any idea where i might find a wiring diagram ? cheers les
  6. MY 330ci , failed its warrant of fitness because the third brake light "doesnt work" , so i have taken the third red brake light out of the boot lid to test it . My multi tester says its open circuit , but online this light is described as a neon light so maybe it cant be "tested" . So , im after an opinion as to what to do next before i start dismantling the loom and/or buy another light .
  7. Evening all enthusiasts. My 89 735 il has finally given up and gone to another with a need for parts. That helped him, however my new car a 1995 730 il, now also needs some help. I,m looking for links and contacts for things like an owners manual, radio screen (the screen on mine has gone crazy is unreadable) and I have a few probs with the drivers seat electrics, advice here would be good. In general, any advice on where to get spares, or good BMW dismantlers , and help bringing this car back to its best would be appreciated. the car has only done 123k and really should have been looked after better by previous owners. However they didn,t, so I will. cheers les
