Ok this is starting to seem like more hassle than it's worth. Went down to Mighty Mufflers and the guy said they were flat out busy, asked if I could just leave the car there for the day. I hadn't planned for that so I couldn't.
Was hoping they'd be able to work on it while I was there (expecting it to take several hours of course), I did ask for that while I was on the phone...
Communication fail I guess.
Stopped in at Pit Stop in Botany to discuss with them. The owner wasn't too keen, he said it would take hours just to cut open the mufflers and the bill would be too expensive to be worth it.
Steve, how much did Pit Stop Grey Lynn charge and how long did it take? PM if you prefer not to post it in public. I'd consider buying the modded one off you but I have a coupe so doubt it could fit.
Was really hoping I could do it this week as I was on leave. Such a pain to organise this when these places are only open while I'm at work
Edit: Called up Pit Stop Grey Lynn and they're not too busy today, will pay them a visit.
Its definitely not a while you wait job. They have to cut open Mufflers , cut out pipe , weld in new pipe which is tricky as you only have access from top and not a lot of room in muffler. I bought a used exhaust so I could leave with them and also keep my stock one in case I didn't like

Pistop Grey Lynn did this exact mod for me and did a great job. But I found it way to loud, I purchased a used 335i exhaust to play on, but I put the original back on. Cold starts it sound like an exotic super car , but driving around was ridiculous. I still have the modded exhaust it you wanted to have a look at there work.

Trying to log my old Polo Gti 1.8t with phase 2 was hard enough! What gear do you do it in with these cars? Are you guys running autos? If so, do they hold up ok with these tunes?
3rd gear pulls, 4th is better for logging ,but even in 3rd you are in big speeding ticket territory . Yeah the autos are good for a ton of power

I'll also vouch for PTF. Jake/Dzenno were very patient and did a great job with my car. Took a total of 12 e-tune iterations to finally dial out all boost overshoot/throttle closures. Now it's pretty close to perfect throttle response and pulls incredibly hard. Put down over 400rwhp and 450lbft on dyno (~100hp/150lbft delta over stock map). $250 USD well spent I reckon.
Steve, is that your wagon on Trademe?
Cheers,
Roman
Jeepers did you have to go logging 12 times. Not easy finding a spot to do them here in AK

Hi bro , your car is a beast! I have done it through PTF and I only did one log and they provided the map the next day. Dyno at Hi Verlocity and made 315rwhp . 10hp more than COBB stage2 + FMIC aggressive map. It seems not a Hugh gain over the Cobb OTS map. Modifications done on my car are FMIC, catless downpipe, charge pipe. Do you think they would possibly get more hp out of these modifications? What mods have you done one yours?
A map after 1 log seems strange, they normally do about 5 at least and send through a new map each time. All dynos read different but I would be expecting more that 315hp

Anyone know a Vehicle Inspection Service in Christchurch worth using? Its for a Nissan and I am in Auckland

Nope not me

Should mention that was on 98 RON with a slipping clutch and boost overshoot/throttle closure through the midrange, hence the Himalaya-like torque curve . Have since replaced the clutch with a Spec 2+ and have the boost overshoot sorted out.
Nice work! Good to see you PTF Tune is giving you good numbers.

Really sorry to hear about your experience, it sucks big time. But definitely stick to workshops that are recommended on here. If central BM Worksop Grey Lynn are great guys.

Took the intake apart to do a stronger and cleaner repair. Tape + silicone wrap topped off with a metal clamp. At least now I can drive normally while I wait for the new part
Edit: Found the throttle body clip! Saw a glimpse of something metal in a deep corner behind the engine. Managed to lean over the engine and reach in to grab it, was attached to the chunk of the charge pipe that blew off.
In other news, my repair holds the pipe on fine, but can't quite hold the boost so car still goes into reduced power mode if I push it.
Would you like to borrow my stock one in the meantime?
-
Not worth making the claim. The charge pipe is super easy to fit, do it yourself.( no skill needed) so just the cost of the pipe, you policy excess is probably $300

Yep definitely similar to the merc wheels, not for the BMW purist.

Don't think anyone local does custom Tuning with Cobb. Do a remote tune with Pro Tuning Freaks or Wedge Performance. I couldn't be happier with my Pro Tuning Freaks Cobb tune

Also note pre march 07 builds cant be flashed for Alpina Trans
-
Thanks Steve. I never knew that there was an android app that can do the flashing. Do you have this on ur car?
No I have a Cobb, but the MHD app has replaced the need for hardware.
-
Nice work, try the MHD app tuning option.

Starts here Nov 1st

Buy A cobb v3

People with Jb4 will say JB4 people with Cobb accessport will say cobb. Both great , pages and pages of talk about both on google. I have a cobb and love how easy to install and uninstall . Plus you can get custom tunes remotely by Pro Tuning Freaks Or wedge.

Are they sure it was exhaust flap rattle and not wastegate rattle?
-
If you get the opportunity drive a modded N54 then you can make that choice. Its a big difference and hard to go back from. If I run the stock map it feels like i'm jumping into a 318

Just about set on a 335i

decent tires and lsd make a big difference. Putting a wavetrac in was one of my best investments
Tuning tools like MHD, cOBB AND jB4 have software rattle reduction options.
I use mhd but choose not to use the rattle fix as it can increase lag a pinch
