Heater climate control not functioning properly
khairul23 replied to khairul23's topic in Electrical system
Wouldn't that affect both sides, and not just the driver's? -
The climate control for the driver's side of my E39 is not functioning properly. The air that comes from all the three outlets (for the windscreen, body, and legs) are cooler than I expect it should. For example when I set the temperature to both driver and passenger to 22 degrees, the air that comes out for the driver is much cooler than that for the passenger. When I upped the temp to 25 for the driver, still no difference in the air. Any thoughts what could be the problem, and whether it's a cheap or expensive fix?

Lurking in the dark, on the footpath and zebra crossing, with no driver, looks creepy! Like a new contemporary version of the "Christine" movie. Nice..

I am with the suggestion to keep the grill as is. Personally I think you're hiding the bimmer's main identity when you black out the grill.

I know Glenn will be furious with this! But I'm selling the said item. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=266464054

I was meaning to ask the same question myself.

Thanks guys. I've got a scanner that I could try use to find what the fault may be. I'll get in contact if a sensor needs replacing.

Your link looks highly probable. I'll give it a try. Thanks.

I have this intermittent problem. While driving, sometimes the ABS warning light shows on the dash. At exactly the same time, the speedometer needle drops to zero and doesn't function. Sometime later the ABS warning light goes away, and at the exact same time, the speedometer needle starts working again. The first time I noticed this happen, there was some weird loud noise when I pressed the brake. But the noise was only one-off. It does not recur even when the ABS warning light shows up again. Weeks before all these happen until now, there was some soft clinking noise when I press the brake, very subtle as compared to that one occasion above. Any ideas what could be wrong?

My car scanner doesn't seem to work with the usb-rs232 cable on my laptop. It does work on a laptop that has built-in rs232 port. Here's a forum I started in trademe getting some suggestions. I haven't tried most of their suggestions. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Community/Message...s.aspx?id=88888Hope you have some luck. I'm still trying to solve this out myself

bought it off trademe http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=251145548

http://bmw-scanner.com/i'll figure this out and come back to you. i tried the 1.4.0 version from the website and it asked me to install adapter software, because the scanner uses rs232 port whereas my laptop uses usb

Found it. should the car be running?

Hi. Where is the interface to the car's computer located, ie the socket where a diagnostic scanner will connect to? My car is e39 520i 1996.

Looks very well-maintained, body-wise. I had a 1991 Toyota Corona once. It had almost exactly the same shape of dash panel with this 5 series. I strongly believe that Toyota was copying BMW, it's uncanny.

Interesting. Please tell in detail what you guys mean by 'abuse'. I just want to make sure I'm not abusing my gearbox.

I'm not removing the airbag functionality, instead I'm looking at bypassing the faulty sensor so that the system always thinks there is a passenger and the airbag will deploy during accident. Currently the system won't deploy any airbags due to the faulty sensor. The cost of replacing the sensor could be at least $400, and the sensor might become faulty again in the future.
