Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Patrick, found the right car yet? Just finished repairing both my rear window regulators. About $60 of parts from Ebay, a couple of youtube videos, and several hours of work including installation and modification, they're done now.

Hi Problems I have with my E39 that are common among E39s (not sure if only on the earlier ones): 1. Passenger airbag sensor 2. Rear window regulators 3. Crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve My mechanic replaced the PCV valve. Now it's running smooth as. Now I'm working on the airbag sensor and window regulator. There are cheap replacement regulator components in Ebay. I'm waiting for one to arrive and repair it myself. I'll update once I've done that. Other than those, the E39 is fantastic. Although mine is a 1991cc engine, it's power is still adequate for me. I have my one personal reasons for getting the smallest engine. I would guess the 2500cc would be great for you. But other opinions that you should get 528i might be worth considering. In terms of looks, I prefer tan interior, it feels more luxurious.

Thanks Glenn. And I've just read your posts in a similar thread. Since the reset, I've never had anyone sitting on the seat, so the warning light is still off.

I just found a thread discussing the same thing. Glenn really stressed on properly replacing it, that he even offered the guy to do it for free, only charged for parts. I would love to take up that offer, if Glenn is still kind enough . But I'm in Dunedin.

If the passenger seat air bag sensor pad is faulty and triggers the airbag fault light, is there a cheap way of bypassing the sensor? My mechanic reset the sensor, so now the fault light is off and the airbag system is functional. But he suspects that as soon as someone sits on the passenger seat, the airbag system will register a fault and will not function, and the fault light will on again. I was thinking, is it not possible that the system just ignores the passenger seat sensor altogether? If this can be done, how? For added info if it helps, the car is an E39 520i year 1996.

Thanks Tony. In fact my choice was limited to the E39 5 series due to the lack of beige interior in other models. Otherwise I would have considered E46 3 series. -
Just did, sorry.

Thanks. Is that the one in Jutland St. Waiting for a quote from them. Is Graham one of bimmersport members? -
Hi all. Nice to finally be able to join your club. I always loved BMWs although the first I actually own. Just bought it a month ago. E39 520i. Year 1996. Beige interior. The choices before buying it was very limited. Limited by budget, and I only like beige interior as it looks more luxuries than the other colours. Chose a smaller engine because I plan to take it to a country where import tax on cars are based on engine size, and road tax is significantly higher for cars above 2000cc. But I was advised against it as 1991cc is too small for the size of the car, and the fuel economy is not much different than some bigger engines. Anyway I went through and am really happy. Recently the engine is having some problem. It is rough and jerks sometimes. Went to a mechanic who checked and said that the crankcase ventilation valve needs to be replaced. He estimated $200+ for parts and $200+ for labour. Is that reasonable? Does anybody here knows a good and cheap place in Dunedin to do work on Bimmers? Is there any place I can order the parts cheaper than my mechanic's quote? Thanks. Khairul
