  1. It's good value for the price, good quality, and the slotted holes don't matter - mine hasn't moved.

But a stiffer one would be better. As said before - read the thread on them I posted above. More info than you'll probably ever need on front brace theory and these bars in particular.

I can see marks in the paint on mine where the strut brace has moved on the strut nuts. Not much, maybe 1.5mm.

  2. my skyline tacho used to play up. it would work sometimes but then few weeks ago just stoped working all together.

i'd put mine down to dry solder cos i opened the tacho up sprayd it with contact cleaner and heated it up with my heat gun for a minute or soon.. cooled it down and it startd working.

    what id do first is

-open it up and connect an aftermarket tacho to see if the problem is still ther. if it is then the problem is on the sender unit side. if the problem goes away then we know your tacho is the problem.

The signal comes straight from the ECU, which uses the VR crank angle sensor to determine engine position and speed, if the sensor was stuffed, the car wouldnt run. What im saying is, we can assume the signal getting to it is fine, and its not a sensor fault, unless the ECU is playing up (unlikely).

It seems to be a common problem with E30's, im not sure what causes it, if it is the tacho it self (easy to replace) or the circuit board in the gauge cluster, but dry joints / broken joints are common.

A friends tacho is stuck on 6500rpm <_<

  3. How do you mount the sway bar mounts to the struts ? Any pics ?

Will get pics next time im over. Same as the M3, except mounted to the spring perch instead of the strut (didnt want to weld with the shock in there)

405 is newer than 403 ecu ,. 405 will run cats normally

402 is about 91/92 and so on upto 405 1993

    then 412 413 414 are vanos m50 type

    Oh yeah..

I wonder how much difference there actually is in the timing / fuelling maps between the two. With the 405 it goes like a cut cat compared to the 403.

  4. Had bit of a play around.. swapping around ECU's etc. the "405" ecu from an e34 goes much much better then the "403" out of the e36, not sure what the differences are but they are there. Its like a completely different engine.

soon we will be remapping it

  5. How much does he want for one? i cant weld at the moment (was going to do a summer course but turns out its part of my course at Tech next year anyways so i can wait) so that + a good 260 box will be cheaper than an E36 one. do you need to fab up a mount if you use the 250 or ZF box or is that bolt on?

Not sure, Ill ask him tomorrow.

If you get a gearbox that came off an m5x engine then it will sit at the right angle and you just use your original gearbox crossmember I believe (i havent used one myself). M20 E34's came out with a ZF, but that will sit at the wrong angle, so just because its a ZF dont assume it will sit right. It needs to be from a m5x car.

  6. Over heat badly?

    Nah.

But it dropped all its coolant again on the way home today, fooking heatercore.

    Edit:

Also, moved the swaybar mounts from the control arm to the strut. Has made the front much stiffer and its alot more controllable in a slide (seems to be more positive).
