I used to have a late (1990) e30 325i auto ex south africa - black with recaros etc etc but sold it because it cost me a bloody fortune to maintain and my boys used to complain every time I went around a corner cos they'd slide sideways on the leather back seats.
No, it wasn't really the idea family car.... so sold it and got a Corona.... yes, I know
Ironically the eldest of those three boys is now an active member of bimmersport and now has his own e30 - also 325i, also black, but manual with cloth interior.
For some reason after seeing what a great job he has done with his, I am back in the fold again having recently acquired (through the family) a 1983 e28 528i auto (ex England) that I am thinking about getting done up (a sort of retirement project, even though I'm not retired). I like the shape (even better than the e30)
The body has a few dings and scratches and a few bits don't work but no rust and only 177ks on the clock, so I'm guessing the engine will be OK.
What do you all think? What about the idea of getting it converted to manual?
Anyway I might post some photos soon (when I learn how)
If it helps to boost my cred just a little, cars I have driven/owned in the past have included
'57 Wolseley 6/90 (learned to drive in it)
Rover 3 litre
Daimler V8
'65 Anglia
71 Corolla Coupe
78 Corolla Coupe
79 Escort Sport (wife nearly killed me when I sold it)
Jag 3.8 (red!) as a replacement for the Escort and sold for much the same reasons as I sold the e30
