  1. I have bought my E36 for this purpose, I was just waiting on Vorshlag to finish their RHD kit, but it looks like that will take a while. Anyway I am off to LA in January and will look at buying an LS1 and T56 while I am there, probably go for an L33 5.3 as they are a lot cheaper than an LS1. I was also considering the Samberg kit as they say it will work for RHD. I believe one of the big advantages of using an E36 is that getting the electrics wired up is a lot easier. I have read (so its not 100% gospel) that the more sophisticated E46 system makes getting gauges and everything working quite tricky. I believe someone is working on a CANBUS communication setup.

Anyway I hope that you have kept all your measurements etc when you created the mounts :) as I suspect your advice may be sought by more than me.

Best of luck and I look forward to seeing your progress here.

  2. I am curious if anyone has used Aussie Made Nolathane Bushes in their E36? They look pretty well priced compared to Powerflex but that could mean they are not as good?

Also as I am replacing the front Struts in my E36; I looked at the old bump stops and they are pretty knackered, where do I get replacements and do I need to trim them for lowered suspension?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. A classic is determined by time, be it 20 years 30 I don't actually know the the time frame, but a car that has as good a chassis as the E36 and has very nice lines especially in Coupe form will be a classic in my books. Its like XA and XB falcons, when I grew up they were a dime a dozen , now even a stock 6 cyl gets mega attention on Tard Me. In 10 years time Decent E36's will be hard to find, same with any car as it ages, more break down and end up around power poles. Just my .02, but I'm buying now before they really start climbing off the bottom of their depreciation curve I personally don't think good examples will get any cheaper.

  4. My E36 has no heat or A/C. The A/C button lights up when I press and the fan works fine in manual mode. The unit is the climate control with twin temperature dials out of a 94 325i Coupe. I have done a bit of research and I think it could be the heater valve is not working combined with the A/C needing to be re-gassed but I would appreciate anyone elses thoughts here before I start pulling things apart.

  5. I was hoping someone could give me feedback on using Powerflex RTAB in an E36? I read on the Turner motorsports site that they don't recommend this as it can cause binding. My E36 has factory motor sport suspension according to the BMW Vin checker and as part of the rear end rebuild I am also looking at replacing the rear shocks, probably Konis. I have some Turner shock top mounts with reinforcing plates. Car will be for enthusiastic street use.

  6. I have been cruising these forums for a while now and just want to say what a wonderful resource it is, very good discussions and lots of smart advice. I have a 95 325i coupe that was consolation for having to sell my E60. Anyway its a Jap import with factory M sport suspension and it has a reasonably tidy exterior but getting a bit sad inside very average door cards, no surprise there. Looking to overhaul the suspension and as its my toy I not that worried about sacrificing some ride comfort for better control. I have a few suspension questions so will post them in the appropriate forum. I am an auto electrician by trade but its been twenty years since I have worked as one so pretty rusty now, I have built a few cars in the past and saw the light a few years back and bought the abovementioned E60. The E36 coupe is my favourite BMW shape although I have to say I love the M Coupe and the classic 6 series.
