  1. made an impromptu decision to trade it in for a 7 seat SUV over the weekend... lol.... thanks to all of you for your input and sharing of knowledge. it helped me get the most out of the old girl for the last 2 years. one day i might come back to a BMW but needed the people mover and the x5 is just to far beyond my budget. good luck all e90 owners.
  2. new problem... intermittent headlight turning off and on.... if it stays off long enough the yellow warning light goes on. did some googling, and it is either the ballast or just a grounding wire issue. anyone experienced this? if i keep this up we could package this thread and sell it off as a resource for new e90 owners.. just waiting for the kitchen sink to fail and we'll have everything covered.
  3. thanks. the place i called in albany said they had the capability to register the battery. yet to be confirmed though.
  4. thanks. its just a bit far for a battery change.. i found a battery place near where i live and they quoted me 220 or so installed for a varta 21d silver calcium or a din55lh startmaster - BMW quoted 600+ for the battery excluding installation... wth.
  5. well hello there... a year has passed with (relatively) trouble free motoring after all the drama! a couple more radiator hoses leaked (which is to be expected with age i guess) and Oil level has been holding up with just a single bar drop after a long drive otherwise always reports as full... it has developed a loud rattling when cold and in gear (no rattle in idle)... comes from somewhere below the belt pulley nearer the airbox side of the engine. goes away once the engine rpm drops to normal. any thoughts? also any advice on battery replacement? I called BMW and got a shocker of a quote.....
  6. Been seeing a half km per litre improvement in consumption after fixing my oil leak and valvetronic motor.
  7. everyone was wrong... it was the brake hoses... failed my WOF. more money down the toilet
  8. Vero has started to lose money on me. But many 350 repairs still hurts the bank account!
  9. when people on the otherside of the glass office windows wave at you and say hi.... you know you've been spending waaaaay too much time at jerry clayton!
  10. On the other hand most dealers for new cars are offering 5 year warranties. It's almost as if they know the thing is going to break!
  11. Valvetronic motor. Kinda suspected it. Any idea what it costs? I'm covered so just paying an excess.
  12. i've been trying to stay positive and recognize that an almost 10 year old car is going to have some issues but my car is in the shop again! NOW i'm starting to get annoyed! a loud rattling noise under the driver side on start up and a yellow warning light (engine light with half solid triangle symbol) followed by car going into 'limp' mode. won't know whats the cause until tomorrow... grrrrr.....
  13. With this latest repair my warranty has paid for itself (based on BMW list price for repairs of course)
  14. latest update. finally found some time to get the oil consumption looked at by BMW (i live 5 minutes from Jerry Clayton lol). as predicted by @B.M.W LTD rocker cover gasket, valve seal, vacuum pump gasket and oil filter housing gaskets are all contributing to the oil consumption/leaks. i'm so thankful i put money into that autosure warranty - i didn't expect them to cover seal/gasket leaks but they do and i only have to pay my excess for a major piece of work that going to put the car in the shop for 3 days.
  15. It's an older one but I don't think they fixed those oil leak issues in the newer one. )
  16. and the hits keep coming... now that the coolant pump is up and running the system is back at full pressure... and the almost ten year old hoses are starting to give... its not the hoses as much as the joints/connections. had coolant dripping from a hose connection at the top of the radiator (passenger side). been told to look out for possibility of other hoses failing the same way. by the time i'm done with this car i can market it as brand new underneath!
  17. It got progressively worse and I did stick my hand in to feel all the hoses and connections. I think it was indeed the pump. I guess I'll take it positively that I got a new pump at 350 instead of 1000. It was due anyway at 90k km
