So I dug up an old thread ..... is that a fineable offence ???, I did a search on the yr 2000 E39 523i's because there seems to have been an engine change before they got rid of the 523's in 2000. .... Anyone with any information about the yr 2000 523i's and just what they were actually powered by would be great. Whether this being a schnitzer model makes any difference - A chap who was looking to buy it (when i had it for sale) did some background checking on the numbers etc, and it was a german assembled 'schnitzerized' model that was imported privatley to Singapore, (the very last batch of 523i's) - before making it's way here in 2006. My friendly dealer (good bloke) advised me that I should a) keep it, or up my asking price on the back of this - I was going to take $10k in late 2008 ........ obviously i went with option a) and happy I did so. Can anyone confirm that the last 523i's did get the Twin Vanos M54 2500cc motor - or have I got an oddball???

Thanks for clearing that up, A friend of mine who considers himself an expert on E39's was telling me year 2000 523i's (In standard trim anyway) has no more power than his 99 520i - the only reason my 2000 ACS 523i blitzes his is because of the schnitzer mods - airbox, exhaust and chip?? By the info you have given a standard 2000 523i has the M54 and would have been 2.5 (184-192bhp standard) vs his 520i 2.2 (170bhp) - I would assume that standard torque figures are higher as well. My BMW mechanic had already told me there was a slight difference in the engine and power between the 99 and 2000 models (dual Vanos), and also said they discontinued the 523i's in 2000 so the M54 powered 523i's are fairly hard to come by - Is this right??

Hi All Our E39 ACS523i recently had it's service, and has developed an oil leak. Our BMW guy - Ex Jeff Gray/ Shelley BMW - reckons it may be the gasket around the oil filter - does this sound common??? Our E39 has done 170kms now - anyone know of related/ common leaks - whether it's likely to be serious and pricing if you've has similar prob's and had them repaired ??? Cheers All Steve

1. My 79 Mitsubishi Celeste 1600 cc - held together with spit and chewing gum, apart from the whiplash I wasn't to upset when a Cortina b#tchslapped it at an intersection (the front end got ripped off) - ill handling - gutless piece of blue poo 2. My Mates 85 Ford Falcon - this thing handled like rollerskating through cowsh#t coated concete, a big floaty pig that probably caused 11% of the worlds emmisions problems on it's own, and it seemed to absorb odours which ain't a good thing, especially when it was used to transport smelly Heavy Mettlers with flatulense issues - Yes, it smelled like a fart, and looked and handled like crap ............... "To the Fecalmobile Stinkman"!!!! 3. Mums 73 Austin Allegro, it didn't have a throttle, it had a volume peddle that was hooked up to a smoke machine, this piece of junk had a wheel shake itself off and pull out and pass the car once, the rear windscreen fell out ..... oh and yes the time it caught fire was especially enjoyable -
Good afternoon All, A BMW fan for years, ever since being taken for a drive in a VN Group A Commodore in 93 and we got taken to the cleaners by an M5 on the Rimutaka hill road. I finally got my own BMW in 2006, that being a 2000 E39 AC Schnitzer 523i (pictured), Before this I had an 06 SV6 Commodore and my Beemer is quicker than that in every aspect which I found surprising with the bee em only being a 2.5, I suspect it has something to do with the AC schnitzer mods (18' alloys, Strut brace, suspension, exhaust and air box). I have subsequently been releived of my Beemer by my wife and 10 month old son (safer for them to be in than our rough old Opel Vectra) so I am counting the days until I can get an E39 540i MSport - or If a bl00dy miracle occurs and I win powerball, get a mint E39 M5 (which I still like better than the new ones) Cheers
