  1. Offering up my 1996 NZ New E36 M3 3.2 Evolution. As much as I love this car, I’m finding I don’t get to use it as much as I’d like ( 2 doors don’t work with young kids). Looking to move to an E90 M3 instead. details:

    •NZ new

    •166,000kms

    •Factory 6 speed manual

    •Non-sunroof

    •Aluminium doors

    •Black leather interior

    •Near new Bilstein suspension

    •Plenty of service history

Best description of the condition of the car is that it’s a true survivor. It has a few stone chips but not one dent or clear coat fade. It presents very well and would be hard to find another in this condition. Please get in touch if you’d like to view. Car is in Central Auckland. 021 657 522

    Thanks, Brad

Well another weekend day, another nap time, another short window to get some stuff done on the car.

The plan for the day was replacing the steering wheel with the new OE item that I purchased last year, but while I waited after disconnecting the battery to be sure to be sure that the airbags were clear to work with I decided that today was finally replacing the gas struts on the boot so that the car no longer sounds like a dying goat when you open the boot lid.

    The old one

The new one - not genuine because I couldn't justify $50 more each to get the "E46 M3" stamp on the genuine one, given these are probably going to start groaning again after a couple of years anyway.

Then it was on to swapping out the wheel. Pressing in on the clock springs to release the airbag is the trickiest part of the exercise, but even that was pretty straightforward as I had the new wheel to refer to which meant I was able to see exactly what it was I was trying to press on, and how much force was needed to depress the spring. I had the old one out in fairly short order.

And the new one was even easier to install. Pushing the airbag back into place at the end is extremely satisfying.

Am planning on getting the dash and gear surround trim in Titan Shadow at some point so that it all matches/looks original.

Depending on what you want to do, I can help out with the trims. I’ve recently repaired and recoloured mine on my E46 M3. I run the Auckland Central Trimfix franchise :)

We certainly have a lower population and smaller pool of prospective buyers.

Similar number of lowballing a-holes, though. ;)

The used car market seems so flat right now that not even the low ballers are making offers!

  4. Yes, it’s back! I traded my previously accident damaged 911 for the M3 as I was getting nowhere with selling it. The M3 is a great car and drives very well. I run the Auckland Central franchise of Trimfix and have reconditioned the interior, fitted a ZHP gearknob, lowering springs and carried out a service. Im facing a BIG loss on this car as the 911 repair went well over budget, hence the high asking price. I am however negotiable so if anyone is interested, please get in touch as I’d like to move the car along!

P.S the sunroof delete comment got me good 😂

  5. Pretty sure this Defender sold for about $18k (if not less) several years ago. I was looking to make a move on it but decided to get a td5 which was less of a project. I get that it’s about the novelty of having an m52 powered defender from factory but you could have much the same car for less than a third..

Make sure you replace the plastic charge pipe with a metal one if it hasnt already been done. Otherwise it will eventually blow and put the car in limp mode.

keep up with regular oil changes. These engines run super hot almost 115-120dC so you dont ever want to pass the service interval.

stage 1 tune highly recommended and dont need any other parts other than the charge pipe.
Stage 2 is a bit more involved with more parts required.

Ok good to know. I'm always on top of my oil changes and will use the best quality. Interesting that they run so hot. I'm not even sure how often youd get to put your foot flat with a stage 1! It's a rocket from the factory!

  7. Awesome to hear, thanks. Pretty much reaffirms everything I've heard already. It's a strange transition for me as I'm having to leave my e36 M3 behind. We had a little toyota daily but now with just a defender and an M3 it's not feasible to have two 'needy' cars. Looking to have something a bit more modern and comfortable. I think the M135i is a great all rounder and a superior alternative to an R32 MK5/ MK6 R.

Oh sh*t, @Olaf will be in here to give you a stern talking to about them cats ?

How does it sound now, more raspy?

Emissions or now having a flat spot at 3k? To be honest it was a waste of time, not much better at all. Hardly cost me anything though so not fussed.

  9. Whipped the exhaust off over the weekend to repair a crack and cut the cats out for a more exciting exhaust note. Also changed the spark plugs, LCAB, gearbox mounts (rubbish for a street car, taking them back out) and gave the car a wash. Slowly getting there.

  10. Maybe I'm an optimist but considering everything I've ever heard about how stringent the engineer cert and recompliance process is, I'd have to think that it's a good car and it's hardly worth worrying about. Sure, it'll hurt resale but that's beside the point.
