  1. Cheers Allan will give them a crack! Definitely. what I really meant to ask was how urgently it required my attention and how much I'd be looking to spend. In the process of getting my car resprayed, so bank will be hurting a little bit hahaha. Also if anyone knows of any affordable but decent painters around Auckland feel free to let me know! much appreciated.
  2. Welcome mate, new my self. Great place to share n gain knowledge as well as meet like minded individuals. Upload a pic of your ride when you get a chance.
  3. TJ you just rang up BMW with the part number for a quote or did ya go in? I would have thought the trim would be symetrical and interchangeable between left and right drives... guess not?
  4. Thanks for all the replies, looks like it's a common issue across many BMWs then. I'll look into those sources and let you guys know how I get on. Might help someone for future reference.
  5. Cheers Grant, any idea how much to get such a job done, or is it relatively easy to DIY with a new trim? Sorry never had any experience on windshields. Is that OEM or aftermarket Nate and I'm assuming you mean for the trim alone not for the job? Not much point in getting one from the wreckers IMO, had a look while I was at Pick A Part a few days ago and both e39's there had the same issue although not quite as bad. Think it's just a thing from age, replacing it with another second hand trim seems like a waste of time and effort if you have to redo the process a little down the track?
  6. So I was cleaning the e39 today and I just noticed that a lot of the rubber trim attached to the bottom of my windshield has cracked and/or broken off. Is this an issue that must be dealt with urgently or is it even an issue? I haven't noticed anything coming into the cabin so does it just flow in to the engine bay / firewall?
  7. Thanks graham, will have a look when it stops raining.
  8. Hey folks, I recently just bought my first BMW and love it to pieces, it's an e39. However the boot lid tool holder is missing its 4 screws, does anyone know what the screws/rivets are called, what they look like or better yet where I can find replacements? Cheers.
  9. As title says! After a e39 m sport bumper. Preferably navy blue. Cheers!
  10. Hey Adeeb, first of all that's a beutiful e39 you got there buddy. Yea I think I will opt for original Hella angel eyes if I can get my hands on some second hand ones. I got a question though that may seem dumb. Are most of the OEM angel eye style headlights Halo or Xenon? Without mods my e39 would only take the halos right?
  11. Right, so after digging around a bit on the net it seems that the majority of aftermarket headlights are rubbish and will just fog up even quicker or break. So not too sure what my options are anymore.
  12. Hey guys, I'm hooked already hahaha! Thanks for the replies. I had polished them before in the past for a WOF, thing is I'm not really fond of the look of these especially the orange indicators. Do you think it might be a better idea to wait for a second hand pair of OEM halos to come up? What do they usually go for and will it fit my ride without further mods (the non xenon ones)? As for the audio issues, I will have a look on here to see what I can dig up. Tomorrow I have a free day, so if all goes well I'll fix the bumper too, do you guys know of any decent and affordable painters around Auckland by any chance? Won't be colour changing so door jams and engine bay won't need any work. My panel beater does decent work for me and in the past has quoted me around $1k for a respray of the same colour, but this was for different and smaller car, so the e39 I'm guessing would be slightly more. Cheers!
  13. Hey fellas, Ian here, just dropping a friendly hello and introducing myself! I just recently bought my dad's e39 525i, thought I'd sign up on here to learn more as well as hopefully share some things with you guys. My near future plans are to respray the exterior, and update the head lights and tail lights (Was thinking of getting some aftermarket OEM style halos off ebay. Anyone have any experience there?). Mechanically it is very sound at only 78xxx k's, the old man always took good care of it as well and it was only used as a spare car in the family. Only faults are that the front bumper isn't mounted properly on one side (caught on a parking block reversing out), the factory radio has stopped powering up and the paint job is starting to peel. I'm planning on fixing the bumper myself before sending it in for the paint job to try and save some $ and also replacing the factory stereo unit with an aftermarket one. Any input and suggestions welcomed. Cheers!
