    Hello

can anyone  recommend a wellington car audio company with experience a suppling at a decent price 2din stereo (or other option) that will enable me to have reversing camera and nav, without compromising the existing idrive etc ( 2008 130i jap import)

    thanks in advance

Can highly recommend "Abtec Audio Lounge" located at 49 Hutt Road, Petone. Keep in mind the last time I used them was about 4 years ago, as we no longer live in the Wellington region. But I'm sure they are still great at what they do. :)

The expression on the owner throughout the video is priceless.  I think I know how I would look like when Misha drives our car.  Also ridiculous if you look at the fuel gauge when it starts and what if left after the lap.  So I think the M5 can only do 4 laps at that rate 🤣

    When I saw them passing the black E36 at 2:12, I thought "Bye-bye E36"...only to see that E36 say bye-bye to this M5 shortly after 3:05 😁

Thanks for the response! I haven’t been on here for a long time as you can see… but appreciate it.

would love to see the collection for sure and yes, it’s been a struggle getting to where I’m at now with the 3 series m collection… see photo :)

As it stands now… I’m only after one more…. It’s the gt spirit f80. Once I have that, I’ll be able to finally sleep. 😂  do you have that one ? 😏

    cheers again,

    Hi Rich,

All good, I also very seldom access this site, only because I no longer own a BMW. I have just sold my 2011 Golf GTi (I loved every second in it, more than most BMWs I've ever owned/driven) and now own a 2010 Mercedes E350 CDI coupe - this is also a lovely vehicle.

As for your question on a GT Spirit F80...no, I don't have one and don't think I'll ever buy one. I've lost my love for some/most 2012 and onwards BMW models. But that's just me.

My next buy will most likely be a Mercedes C63/E63 AMG, or possibly a BMW M3 with the V8 engine.

All the best though for trying to get hold of a GT Spirit F80. Oh, and nice 3 series Beemers you have there, except I don't like the white one, the nose is just plain ugly, again, only my personal opinion. :)

    Cheers,

    Charl

I've decided to buy the 2010 Mercedes E350 Coupe....for now, just to get around (for now) while the Golf awaits repairs. However, I've already spoken to Simon (O'Reilly)...I asked him to be on the lookout for me for a C63 AMG...🤩

I've had that M Roadster on my watchlist for a while now and I'm honestly surprised no one has snapped it up yet. If the car was local to me I would be down in a flash to check it out. Quite a few people just have no idea what it even is. Seems very fairly priced considering how rare the M Roadster is. The only thing off putting for me are the wheels which do not suit the car at all imo.

I reckon if you got some factory Style 40 wheels and sourced a silver hard top roof you will have a very sought after little machine.

Another dealer is trying to sell a silver M Roadster for $80K, while I think this is a little absurd in the current market, I can only see these shooting up in value, especially as the coupes climb in value.

I was in Wellington about 2 weeks ago, and I saw this Z3 at O'Reilly's. It looks a little ugly with the E46 M3 wheels, yes, however, when I started it...I drooled and fell in love with it! I have an itch...I want it, and will speak to my son when he gets here to Pahiatua within the next hour.

I love the Z3's, currently have 3 of them.  Do not own a Z3M but one is a 3.0L, so I know about having 231 HP in a Z3.

They are a fun well connected to the road car.  The 2.7 turn to turn ratio steering is a joy in the twisties.

Torsional rigidity is low (not having a roof) and you can get a little scuttle shake if you are really pushing it hard.   That is why BMW put in the lower engine X brace and why the previous owner has put in the front top X brace.  So, this car is all sorted.

This car does not have ASC, so a little care and respect is needed in the wet.  It's very easy to get the rear to step out with all of that power under the hood.

The S50 engine is a strong engine.  Do you research on maintenance needs.  The speedo is in Miles.

Ride comfort.  My E46 with standard wheels and suspension is a flying carpet compared to the Z3.  The Z3 ride is not harsh, but you do feel the dumps a bit more.  I put this down to the road connected go-kart feel of the car.  If you are really interested in the Z3M, see if you can take it for a test drive over the Rimatuka's. You'll either love it or hate if after your 2 hour run.

The biggest weakness in the Z3M is the rear sub-frame.  The subframe breaks away from the boot floor and the diff hangers crack.  With the miles on the car, you need to get this inspected by someone who knows what they are looking for.  Root cause is too much power and a manual transmission.  People just love to drop the clutch and stress the subframe welds.  First thing to look at is the spot welds in the boot where the subframe attaches.  See any pulled or cracked welds, then walk away.  Alternatively, knock $10k off the purchase price and have a Randy Forbes kit installed and have it fixed for good.  Lots of photos and information on the interweb, so do your research.

The price is good.  A Z3M for under $30k is a bargain.

Thank you for your valuable information. My son works at O'Reilly's, well, actually more than just work there. (Long story)

Will have a chat with him when he arrives here (Pahiatua) later this evening. :)

  7. Hi all,

So it's been nearly 2 years since I sold my last BMW and bought a 2011 VW Golf MK6 GTi. I don't (really) miss my BMWs and I still love every single time I drive the GTi, however, since I was hit from behind in Palmy by a 25 year old young man who could not brake in time, the GTi is now waiting to get repaired, and since we no longer live in the Wellywood region, and have moved to the Tararua region, everything here is 100 times slower, and from what it seems, it is going to be a long time before I get my GTi back again.

With that said, if the GTi is not back to the way it drove before the car was hit, then it may take even longer to sort any little issue out. So now I'm browsing for a car...from GTIs to BMWs, to Mercs (I'm looking at a few C55 AMGs, also C63 AMGs) and what is strange is just how "cheap" most MK6 GTIs are, compared to nearly any BMW out there, no matter how old. I'd think that with the GTI's performance and how it sticks to the roads, that the GTi would be a better (including fuel economy) option compared to BMWs with similar performances. Anyhow, where I'm actually going with this is, I saw a "lovely" looking BMW Z3 (I don't really like the Z3 shape) online at O'Reilly's Garage in Petone that has the engine of an E36 M3 and the price seems very reasonable. Here's the link:

    https://www.oreillysgarage.co.nz/listings/1998-bmw-z3-m-roadster/

What's everyone's thoughts on the Z3? I'm really really really tempted to buy it, but as I don't know the Z3s, and have never owned or driven one, I'm wondering if this will be similar to driving a go-kart...and I love go-karting! 🥰

Appreciate any suggestions/thoughts/likes/dislikes about this Z3.

    Cheers,

    Charl

    Hey All,

    Thanks for the interest!

If anybody has 1/18 M3 plain body versions i'l be very keen. Just few more pics the ones I'm really after or similar

    Thanks again!

    Rich

    Hi Rich,

Somehow I missed your original post...now nearly 2 years later and I shall reply to you. I do have many 1:18 scale cars, at one stage I had more than 300 that I collected over all the years, some are BMWs (E36 M3, E46 M3 CSL, M6, to name but a few), and most are not found anywhere else in New Zealand as those I bought when I lived in South Africa, and we have been in NZ for nearly 15 years.

Unfortunately/fortunately none of these 1:18 models will ever be for sale as I will be handing them down to my nearly 28 yr old son. 😊

Then again, never say never, right? 😏

  9. Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted anything on Bimmersport, only because I unfortunately/fortunately (pick one that works for you 😆) don't own, and have not owned a BMW for nearly 2 years (I just LOVE my 2011 Golf MK6 GTi every single time I drive it 🥰). And as we're moving soon, I (or rather the wife!! hehehe) started packing and stumbled onto this 1982 - 2001 BMW Inspection Oil Service reset tool that was stored away. I only used it twice, so as new.

Googled for what they go for now, and it is all over the place. www.fruugo.co.nz has the same tool for $99-00 and $42-95...LOL. But the cheapest is $21-93 on Aliexpress (they no longer sell these), but overall the majority of local sites have it over $40-00. I also cannot recall how much I paid for it when I purchased it, so I'll say...

    $30-00

Please note, prefer pick-up in Grenada Village (Wellington), but can meet in Johnsonville/Churton Park/Porirua/Petone. Cannot courier as we're moving this coming Saturday 29 Jan 2022, so must be collected before then. If it does not sell, I'll keep it (for maybe one day, should I decide to buy a BMW again).

And more important: prefer unvaccinated person to pick-up, but vaccinated also welcome. 😊

Wow at those sort of prices I may have to give it a miss. Might be time to just enjoy it for what it is.

Jon is a great guy, he did the manual conversion on my BMW E36 about 5 years ago, and back then all in all cost me more than $7k! Never again 😟

Just thought Id ask here if anyone has any recommendations or is making the trip themselves and wants to extra cash? Fully dressed engine (the M54B30 from on here) to my mechanic in Wellington, ready now'ish?

I bought an engine from someone in Hamilton about 18 months ago, and he made use of Mainfreight who delivered the engine to my then mechanic's workshop in Newtown. And Mainfreight's price was not too expensive.

  12. You're lucky Paul. About 2 months ago someone (most likely with a ute + towbar - or something) at PaknSave in Porirua reversed into the back of my E46 330i and left a small dent just below where the trunk opens. Needless to say, the little dent is still there and I shall most likely have to get it fixed at some stage.
