Wow, I never noticed that. You are obviously right. I thought clear sides were facelift, but that is msport facelift, isn't it? Lame. That's about the only mod I'd want on one of these then!

Just now, Olaf said:you're lucky. at the time, my wife said "those e39's are ugly. buy something else." and the e46 was later acquired.
Toledo Blue is different. Not so keen on that leather interior, but its a *leather interior!*. Which for child-ferrying duties, is the bomb. It's so, soooooo much easier to clean vomit out of a leather interior than a cloth interior. Ask me how I know!!
I reckon allowing for the usual M54 neglect, some brakes and shock work, it's pretty good buying at a shade under $3k, if you're looking for a wagon for family or utility duties.
I agree completely. The problem is I need wife buy-in for these things. She feels like she got the raw end on the silver saloon and I can't blame her. I rushed in. I've learned a lot since then though and whilst I'd be happy getting this, if she wouldn't, I'll pass. At $3k it'd probably be a good buy and I like that is isn't Msport!

Blue, 2003, 530i, touring.
I ended up with msport2 as a fluke and I resent it intensely. Parts cost more for no benefit to me.
That said, wife now says "that's an ugly blue."

It ticks all my boxes for my unicorn, even if it is a bit of a damaged specimen. If the starting point is that it needs shocks, I can only imagine what else it needs...
It even has isofix!
What's with the non-Facelift headlights?
Anyone in Rotorua who could look at it for me?

Oh the interesting conversations this might lead to...
I saw in the various videos the amount of room to be had with the intake manifold off. I am just not quite confident enough of my ability to put everything back in once I've taken it off!
Edit: two hours later, CCV all replaced. I think the removal of old parts was worse than the putting parts back in.
-
No way I'm removing that manifold today! Plus, I'd have to wait for the gasket and hoses to arrive...
Getting to where I am now was only possible in an efficient way because I'd done the oil filter housing gasket before. It's like I'm building up to larger jobs.
I've watched a few videos and those hoses are also zip tied to the manifold, or the block eh, that looks like a right pain to remove.

1 hour ago, treone said:Coool! I will need to post it to you as we are in opposite ends of the island lol. Let me figure out (i.e. google haha) the location of, and how to remove, the ews module and then I will touch base for postage details. Probably be a weekend thing to remove...
No fuss. Once you know where it is, it's a quick job in and out to remove, and put back in.
-
Can someone link these pipes/hoses under the intake manifold y'all are referring to?
EDIT: Do you all mean 5, 6, and 8 here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=DT62-EUR---E39-BMW-530i&diagId=11_2638 ?

11 minutes ago, Young Thrash Driver said:@Gabe79 how are the heater hoses under the intake manifold? Ideal time to do this job is now. Mine were so close to total failure they were actually leaking coolant. I recently went through all this and put the cold weather CCV setup in, not sure if the cold weather package is a waste of time in NZ but that is what it came with... anyway, much Vaseline was needed to make it all fit as the insulation makes it quite bulky
Haven't looked at them hoses. Can you link a part number so I can go to a diagram for it? I'll have a look at them tomorrow. I'm hoping this doesn't turn out to be a two-week job like the oil filter housing gasket turned into.

1 minute ago, treone said:Awesome! If the one you've got will do the trick then I'm pretty keen to take it out of convenience. Let me know what you would like for the key etc. PM me if that's easier.
And what's required to get the coding done?
Really do appreciate all the comments and help from everyone as well!
I need your ews module. In person or by post. Takes maybe 30 minutes.
1 minute ago, treone said:I'm assuming as well that remote lock/unlock/arming/disarming will work with a busted door barrel?
You might have to use your other doors if you broke your mechanism, but the remote will work anyway. ?

34 minutes ago, treone said:For sure!

Good news - a neighbour managed to get it unlocked. after 2hrs of wiggling and jiggling a wire to hook the handle (which we managed to do). It wouldn't unlock after two pulls. Then the neighbour puts a flat head down where the lock barrel should be, a push and a twist the viola! it opens! and no need to break a window - bonus!
Thanks for the suggestion to wedge open the door @BM WORLD this enabled us to get a wire in to hook the handle. Unfortunately I don't have the right tools to pull and release it properly, they don't make coat hangers like they used too
.
I can honestly say that it is easier to do with 2-3 people than just one!
Now I'm left to get the barrel and key sorted -sigh haha. But lucky I get the Monaro back tomorrow...
@Gabe79 - here's a pic of my key. Hope you can advise what type I need.
Cheers!

This will do you. I have one spare here if you're hard up right now. It is a different type than mine, so you're welcome to it. I ordered it by mistake awhile back. We can code the spare I have here for you and if it works, you can order more if you want.
Edit: I don't know why the link doesn't work. I'll fix when I'm in front of a computer.

CCV replacement step one accomplished today. Removed intake, air boots, ICV, throttle body, CCV, DISA valve. CCV hoses disintegrated in my hands. Throttle body was black and yellow. I wish I'd gotten a before photo. ICV was sticking something mad. Both shiny clean now. It started pouring buckets while I was out there, will have to finish tomorrow. In all I'll be replacing throttle body gasket, ICV grommet, dip stick gasket, CCV system.
Boxed up old old parts in easy to find boxes with labels and boxed old parts in a nicely organised fashion. Check out them CCV hoses. They just disintegrated.

Just now, treone said:Thanks for all the replies - I have some work to do! @Gabe79 I will post some pics of my key later this arvo/evening - appreciate your help.
Alternative is to suck it up and order a key from the dealership for about $400
Don't buy from the dealership until we at least try. I have sorted my own and some members' keys for $15+cutting cost per key. I don't see why we won't be able to do that with yours. (pending seeing yours)

33 minutes ago, Lucan said:Ooo the old 530i vs 540i debate, has been covered alot in the past.
Having had a 530i previously I do prefer the 540i - exhaust note is nicer and accelerates/pulls better. Fuel efficiency is an issue (short, low speed commutes for me).
It isn't really a debate for me at all. I have watched hundreds of videos on the I6. It's the only engine I know. I'd have to start from scratch for the V8. Mind, I'll learn a new engine when I get an e39 m5 someday. ?

1 hour ago, treone said:Thanks @BM WORLD. I will have a go at trying the screw driver method or pry the top of the door a little bit. I only need to open it at this stage, then I can get the lock and key sorted. I'm trying to avoid break a glass if I can... may give you a call later this arvo when I get home and give it a go.
Do I need to go the the stealership to get a new lock?
Thanks @Gabe79 will cross that bridge when I get to it... I've been meaning to get a second key for a while haha - might be worthwhile getting a set of them. Any suggests where to get them other than the dealership? I have the older style (not diamond head) two button remote.
Message me a pic of your key. Both sides. I'll link the kind you can get. Theyre cheap on eBay. About $15 each delivered. Then coding is free and cutting runs you from $20-$75each depending on how friendly your locksmiths are.
Edit: when I say coding is free, I am offering to do it for you for free.
-
When you have your locked door sorted, I'd be happy to help you code new keys that actually work.

Euro surgeons does it. Don't know costs. You can buy the kit and do it yourself for 60euro-ish. I got mine from pixelfix.

More mindless sh*t with no research just a vacuous moron sounding off but then he has probably been stealing cues from their president ??
Don't have to like the guy, but that's a pretty uncharitable comparison. ?
His points are reasonably valid and do seem to echo reality in that, at least to me, the e39 m5 in particular is the pinnacle of BMW cars. Call it confirmation bias on my part.

No, it was this one which another forum member bought for what I can only guess is a steal.

Should be a good time for these, a nice example sold here recently for a bargain of a price...
Have you seen what's on Trademe now, there isn't much, but this looks nice:

Fcpeuro is the only place. Lifetime warranty on wear items... last pads and rotors you'll ever buy. Lots of good options there.
