  1. I don't really understand what you mean by you can't afford to run it. It's not a hugely expensive car, nor should it be costing you any more money in terms of repairs since it's been done, or fuel since it's a 1.8L. I duno but it seems more sense to keep it!

It sounds like a minter, more reason you should keep it and have trouble free motoring rather than sell for loss, downgrade to a $2000 car then spend $2000 on repairs and you end up with same money spent and a lesser car than this tidy e36!

    Just my 2c

Totally agree! I get 600kms around town and 7-800kms open road running in my e36 it has had most preventative maintenance done, has a few more kms (150km) and i've spent a few $K doing this but in reality i'd be happy to get 3-$3.5k when i sell it. I'd definitely not sell to trade down for a Toyota/jappa etc so i can have a few extra $ in my pocket which i'd probably end up spending twice over getting the Toyota to a level i'm happy with or general maintenance. ;)

  2. Short answer, no it's not worth it!

I had the same thought with a WRX i had a few years ago, after insurance, transport costs, 10% Australian GST valuation tax, customs tax 5% and i may be wrong but i think certain brands qualify for a luxury brand tax as well your friend could be looking at $5-7k for a car worth about the same!

I bit the bullet and left the car in storage and bought a late model (01) SS Commodore for $5k (they're cheap as chips) and then flicked on when i left a year late only losing $500

  3. Cheers, i thought it was most likely the FSU after checking the fuses. I must have bumped something while checking so will have a check over the weekend, does anyone know if a scan would show the FSU playing up or anything else with the console?

  4. Hey guys,

Well the heater fan which was blowing very softly when i bought it at the weekend (and assumed cabin filters) stopped yesterday so after a bit of reading found it could be the fuse, FSU or blower motor. Today i removed and checked the fuses before i went down the FSU path, i found that the fuses were fine so replaced them, when i went to start the car i noticed that the fan console was not working at all (no power etc)

The car was off when i checked but did i do something wrong when checking the fuses? any ideas?

    Cheers heaps

  5. Hi Guys, a couple of e39 noob Q's, I have noticed that my dash display had come up with the wee car and what appears to be a right brake light out (sorry attachments not working) but all my lights seem to be working so wondering what this is, also i have the ( ! ) amber warning light, what i'm assuming is an ABS warning but the car sailed through a WOF today, can anyone give me a little insight to these please before i get it scanned on Monday. TIA
