@Sammo oh, yeah I saw that but I was trying to figure out what simca actually meant.

Did simca mean that those that he’s seen patches of bog like that has always had crack and rust underneath?

I realised after reading back over it it is a bit heavy on the double negatives. I'm just trying to say that it's only time before that big patch of bog will start rusting underneath and start cracking off. I've seen it happen a fair bit before, no car is safe, especially not if the bog already looks like that.

Or every person trying to sell their classic Bimmer is using the same BS to try and make their car sound more important.

No matter whose car it was it would still need to have number plates on it to be driven.

I swear every e38 has the same story of "the President of BMW used to own this, I just cannot prove it" - like okay fellers, leave some buyers for the rest of our non-BMW-President-Owned cars.

@Simca, rxsumo passed away last year.  He is missed.

Great that you've got one of his former cars.  Enjoy it.

I'm sorry to hear that. Would have been cool to hear some stories and history about the car. It's at least nice to know it was owned by an enthusiast.

  4. Thanks for the advice guys, will definitely take a look at it all when I get some time off.

Also just figured out this car used to belong to @rxsumo on here. Sent him a message about it but not sure if he's still active on here. Pretty cool to find old pics of the car though.

  5. Here's my 535IS, had this for almost two months now. Probably the nicest car I've owned so far and am very happy with it!Cars-10.thumb.jpg.da3843e091850a69b24ddd604120c57c.jpg

It's got 340 000 km on the clock but it seems to be very well maintained, so far I've only had to fix a couple of small things. It feels very tight (as tight as a 31 year old heavy sedan can be anyway), it seems like a lot of the suspension has been recently replaced. Someone once loved this car very much and I am hoping to continue that love. Currently I am very happy with realOEM and the countless genuine parts websites online that are almost better priced than used parts anyway. I have already bought a new sunroof mechanism cover panel and a new bit of bumper trim that was missing for some really good prices.

Right now I am still working on:

    • Trying to figure out what is causing the slight miss at low rpm and under load
    • The headlight washer system (no clue what is holding this back)

Any help or tips would be appreciated.

Also any tips on fuel economy or is it just always bad?

What colour was it? Do you remember? We have a gentleman in Auckland who has been building a register - so always keen on securing any intel on elusive E39 M5's.

As for your comments regarding how there they were dirt cheap a few years ago- yes there were a few sold for around $20k years ago. Anecdotally, double that value now.

Same everywhere. A friend of mine here in San Francisco was sadly reminiscing recently that she sold her tidy  2001 example  in Silverstone with 100,000 miles for $11,000 USD in 2015. It would  be a $22-25k USD car to purchase now- minimum!

Google Street View; can't see the plate number but it looks to be black. Somewhere I had a picture with a plate number but not too sure. Don't want to post the adress because I'm sure the guy deserves some privacy. Streetview is from 2019 anway so it's probably gone by now. Guy told me something was wrong with the motor and he parked it up. I remember the window being cracked and the interior being grotty as hell. Been sitting for I think 1 or 2 years like that at that point.

  7. Hey guys I've got my 535i e34 and I think it's an iS but that some point during the respray someone has removed the M badging. It has full Mtech kit and such which makes me think so, I really don't want to come off as upbadging my car lol. What M badge do I need for the grill and would anyone else with a 535iS be able to take pics of where the M badge on the boot is located so I can know how to align it. Cheers

Sorry for late reply, do you have any rough prices and maybe a way to contact? Just keen on the touring I guess if he still has it.

  9. I have moved to the great big country of Europe where owning cars is expensive and daily driving classics seems to be "not done".

So I've come to the point where, still having 3 cars in the Homeland is maybe not the best option for me right now.

So here for sale is my 1987 320i.

It's manual, and coupe and is NZ new.

It's got a bit of wear and tear, but then again it's a BMW from the 80s so we can't expect everything.

Most notable being the sunroof (comes with a spare), shifter bushing, seats and a spot of rust near the taillights.

It's for sale on trademe for $7500:

    https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2206179000.htm

I'll say 7200 Ono for the good folks on here but any offers considered.

(If you think my price is crazy and outrageous please tell me I have no idea how to price this thing. I priced it as the cheapest manual coupe but maybe that logic is wrong?)

Also for sale a half decent e34 525i with the head (m20b25 head reconditioned) off for like 500 bucks, gotta get this thing outta my parents' backyard. Comes with a free bow and arrow and receipts for the head work.

If anyone wants some pics of either cars just send a response so I know I've got some interest.

    Cheers

  10. Hey guys!

Looking at buying an e34 wagon with an m50b25tu. Owner sent me a video of it with the ticking engine which seems to be the only problem. He says it's lifter tick but it seems pretty loud and to me sounds pretty close to when my mate's bluebird got the ole rodnock. Maybe I'm just imagining things, but if anyone's willing to have a listen and give me their $.02 that'd be great.

  11. I'm currently still looking at suspension options for my E30 and have started looking into cheap adjustables. From Europe one can get very cheap adjustable suspension, I was just wondering what the legality was of power quality suspension set ups in cars. Does the suspension have to be made by a reputable company to be certable, like wheels, or can you just Chuck anything in there and hope it stays?
