Some what relevant an f80 just sold for $47k. I’d rather have that for the same money as a e9x personally

Man it’s such a nice daily and fast car 🤣

Way better than the E92 but this is a rare occasion when you can get a F80 at this price imo. The other F80 for sale is 189ks asking for 41.9k, seems to be asking too much compared to this.

@lbo99 I will probably sell those wheels. They’re replicas, and aren’t the correct width/offsets. The paint condition is average too, so I would prefer a set of the standard 18’s or genuine comp wheels if they came up for sale.

Interesting points re: E46 vs E9X. In terms of modern tech features, the only real advantage my particular E90 has over the E46 is CIC with CarPlay retrofitted (granted the spec of mine is a little on the light side). Very handy for everyday use although the base audio system is pretty lacklustre. EDC is also a nice feature but I haven’t done enough k‘s yet to really test it out.

Lmk when you want to sell them, I might be interested to get them if I manage to find a suitable M3 soon :)

Timely thread - I picked up this LCI Interlagos Blue E90 M3 last week. I specifically wanted a sedan over the coupe - the E46 isn't going anywhere, I wanted four doors for the practicality, and I actually prefer the look of the sedan over the coupe for the E9X generation.

@lbo99 would the E46 make way for an E90 or would you keep both?

I don't believe there are significant differences pre-LCI vs LCI - depending on the service history, the car may be on original software and I understand this makes a slight difference to the way the DCT performs. I just had all the modules and software updated at the dealership as this is an ex-UK car with limited NZ dealership service history.

Nice purchase John! I was actually looking at this car too but I personally prefer the coupe more. What are you going to do with the comp wheels that came with it?

No the E46 M3 will never go. Just wanting something more modern and a nicer daily that’s why I started looking into the E92 M3s. Have driven a few and I’m happy to say that they’re quite nice but nothing close to the E46 M3s imo.

Will be paying attention to the market and hopefully I can get a nice one soon.

  4. Hi team, I’m currently thinking of adding another addition in my garage. Without doubt it’ll be the E92 M3. I was looking at the fire orange one on Trademe but unfortunately it got sold before I can even get my hands on it.

I’ve driven a pfl manual one and facelift dct one prior and at this stage I am siding with the facelift dct one.

Is it true that the faceflift cars drives way better than the pfl ones? As based on my personal experience I like how the facelift car drives better. However, I wouldn’t mind if it’s dct or manual providing that it is a nice example.

Feel free to provide your thoughts or tips on getting a E92 M3 team! :)

    Bit of an update:

My new dash trim arrived today as well. The paint I used on the handles is pretty much perfect. I don't think you could easily tell my homemade spray painted handles from brand new OEM ones judging by the finish on the new pieces. Honestly much better than I could have hoped for. Got a bit carried away and ended up ordering a brand new centre console switch centre (part that is removed in the third pic). I did pull it out with the intention of refinishing it the same way I did the underside of the door handles. It was in much worse shape though. Really scratched up and sticky. However once getting it out it was clear that a previous owner had hacked it up and it was held together with silicone anyway, probably for an aftermarket head unit or something. $300 later and a brand new one is coming. Ouch. Should make everything feel a bit fresher though. Once the seats are in, all that's really left on the interior is an alcantara wheel and new A and C pillars (sagging), then I'll have a breather for a while.

    20210906_175839.thumb.jpg.dfe3788d626c5a704eaba91bfc306a94.jpg

The following all happened prior to the above and is much less interesting but I thought I might as well do a photo dump and that way it's documented.

Best thing about lockdown so far has been ticking off all the sh*t jobs I didn't want to touch, nothing very exciting (hopefully that is to come in the next few weeks). Biggest one being painting the CMP subframe reinforcement bar. Was terrified of getting overspray somewhere that mattered or it looking rubbish so my boot was left stripped out for weeks. Finally got to it last week. Basically spent a whole day just turning the interior into a spray booth, paranoid about overspray.

I had already previously stripped the spare wheel well down to bare metal as a previous owner at some point, not the person I bought the car from, had fiberglassed a subwoofer in and there was a bunch of leftover fiberglass stuck to the boot floor. Fool. Primer then paint went on. Just used the titanium silver body colour.

Goal was never really to make it perfect. Just improve it. The CMP stuff is never going to look super OEM so as long as it looks decent then I can live with it. It is in the boot after all. The paint came up really good. Finish was nice enough given I couldn't clean or sand the surface perfectly.

    20210903_173526.thumb.jpg.97ab10ac8cc11869a8712bd2dfeabd1a.jpg

Next was the miserable job of cutting the carpets to size. Climbed in and out of the boot countless times and going back and removing slightly more. Came up with an okay enough fit I think. The board that goes underneath the carpets was a bit trickier because it had to be cut with a jigsaw and fit around the tube sections on the main beam. I managed to get it close enough but not perfect. My jigsaw skills are a 5/10 at best. If I was really smart I would have left the centre section slightly longer and it would have tucked under the beam nicely. I'll know for next time...

Didn't like the exposed silver between the bars either so I made some templates out of cardboard and cut some sections to fit from a donor boot floor carpet I had.

Everything went back in with brand new clips. Once the carpet was in with my new OEM trunk mat it looks about as close to factory as I'm going to get. Only sign of it is a hump in the floor, and when you pull back the carpets it's not too ugly. Stoked. 20210905_130740.thumb.jpg.7395933b1f3025602ebc63ba00c4b0d1.jpg

I am the owner of this M3. I have updated the trademe listing with details.

Yes, it is a Singapore car but I would have thought any issues associated with this would have manifested and been resolved  in the last 13 years?

It was Phoneix yellow but has been resprayed (not wrapped) in Santorini Blue.

Was SMG but has been converted to manual. Further details in advert.

Keen for a meetup will some e46 m3 owners in chch before you sell it? or even better just keep it, it's gonna be a very regretful one once you sell it. Send me a message Peter :)

That car at Chevron Motors was not a nice example. Singapore car, rubbers on screens front and rear damaged, carbon fibre roof delaminating, myna bird droppings had left staining on the bonnet and boot lid, probably helping the roof delamination along too. However the final blow for me at least was, a new set of Horace Horizon tyres had been fitted. The black worked well with the red interior, but didn't bother going further with a road test unfortunately. ?

There was an excellent one owner x UK example in AW in the low thirties earlier in the year at Ebbett Motors in Hamilton, someone acquired that pretty quickly.

I test drove that particular car with my mate, the overall condition on the car was just okay. My mate wanted to buy it but the dealer didn't worked out a good deal with him. My mate offered him somewhere near the asking price with new Michelin Super Sport 4S on it but the dealer insisted the Michelin primacy tyres on it are good enough for the car lol.

I see that you're located in chch, keen for a M cars only meet up in the future? ?

  8. I have a mate that's looking for a facelift/ competition package E92 M3 too, but he only wants a DCT. HMU if anyone is selling ?

We're in Christchurch and will be willing to travel anywhere for the right car. Cheers :)

Do let us know how the coffee goes.

The fuse I'd be blowing would be a non-stock item and on back order in Germany.

Went in today to explain the whole thing and had a good 'talk' with the service manager, he then told me he would need to check the log book with the mechanic on whether they have checked the fuse when they replaced the O2 sensors which I believed they didn't if not the car wouldn't be acting like that all the time lol. Got the I'll give you a call back quote from him again (as usual). If the discussion goes well, they will only refund me the labour (680 ish) for the O2 sensors but not the others even though I told him the thermostat, fuel pump, fuel filter and others might not be necessary to be replaced at the time of the issue. Oh well, guess I'll just treat those as preventative maintenance. He also offered me manager discount for parts I buy from them in the future which I doubt will be cheaper then FCP Euro but we will see. Let's hope everything goes well so I can get a refund to compensate all the time, money and effort I've wasted on them arghhh.

On the bright side, my car is now fixed and thanks a lot guys.

Just a pic of my car taken at Mount Cook few weeks ago on limp mode ?

The stacked four in the centre on the black car are the M Performance parts which are available dealer fitted, as is the big Wang on the boot. Should you want them, rather than standard.

Only the non-Competition models are available with manual gearboxes, and I am lead to be available in RHD. Possibility of being offered in NZ if there is enough demand.

The M xDrive variants are also a possibility later on in 2021.

Hopefully there will be the manual ones available in NZ as opposed to there's no M2 competition manual available here in NZ unless we go for the import route....

  12. Thank you for all the response! Special thanks to @Arron for reaching out and helped solving the issue with my car, so stocked that it's finally acting how it really should be. My faith with the dealership is dead, very disappointed on them with all the time and money I've wasted it's just ?

You're a legend @Arron, once again thank you so much. ?

Yeah surely some fault messages would be there after it goes in to limp mode. Best to scan it as soon as it exhibits this behaviour though.

I had a similar issue in my old m5 after doing clutch, the o2 sensor connectors were plugged in front to back. You mention the o2’s were replaced but was the exhaust dropped before it started going in to limp for maintenance/repairs?

Chch bmw might've dropped the exhaust before while they did my exhaust hanger bushings but i'm not too sure about that. I hope they're not that dumb to plug it the wrong way, i would need to check with them.

You need to go elsewhere... a quick Google throws up lot's of independents in Christchurch such as https://www.kevinburtltd.co.nz/ (I have no experience with them, they were just first on the list).

Call one of them, explain that your M3 isn't performing as expected and you need a quote to have all of the codes read and a printout to take away with you.

Upload that printout here... it's all guesswork otherwise. If the it's not throwing any code, or making any crazy noises then it's going to be a mission I'm afraid.

Does @Aaron have an OBDII computer to plug it in to in ChCh? I don't know.

The only reason I'm not going elsewhere is that I might not be able to dispute as the dealership might claim that the car has went through other people. Eurorec and DCH is pretty well known for BMW in chch but I think they're not too sure about M cars. Would be a good idea to check with them if I can't get this sorted with chch bmw. It just feel like I've basically thrown my money into the bin if someone else fix it but not them.

  15. On 8/14/2020 at 6:15 PM, KwS said:

Sounds like they're applying the scattergun approach instead of diagnosing the issue properly. Are there any recommended indy workshops there that could have a look and pull codes? Its unlikely its going to be in limp mode without codes.

    On 8/14/2020 at 7:05 PM, F10er said:

That sounds very unusual. So there is no check engine light or fault codes at all when it goes into limp mode?

Yeah they're basically ripping me off, unfortunately i don't think there's any in Christchurch. There's no check engine light. The car used to have fault code for the EGT, but it has been replaced and O2 sensors was replaced too as suggested by chch BMW. I was told there is no fault codes and the car is 'perfect'.

  16. Hi guys, I'm sorry for the late reply regarding this topic. The car has yet to be fixed. The car went back in again and they tested the clutch, mass air flow sensor, cats and fluids. They asked to charge me $500 plus for checking those and told me the car has no problem at all and has no fault code, which is unreasonable for me imo as that should be their job in the first place to go through everything and they are now trying to charge me more by telling me nothing is wrong with the car when they didn’t even fix the problem after i've spent so much money with them. They are now suggesting to bring my car to an external dyno and it would be all on my cost. I really don't know what to do anymore, i'm sick of their attitude saying 'we will give you a call asap' but they never intend to give a damn about this issue. I've got this problem with my car since last year and I could say my car probably visit the dealership the most out of all E46 M3 in this country. They never follow up with me unless I kept chasing on them. I've complaint a few times and it's still the same, I'm sick of this. I think the next step would be writing an offical complain to BMW NZ. Any input from you guys would be much appreciated, cheers :)

  17. For the S54 experts out there, my 03.5 E46 M3 (SMG) has gone into limp mode. I've been told by the dealership to replaced and have replaced the ignition coils, spark plugs, egt, all of the O2 sensors, fuel filter, and fuel pump. The car still doesn't let me go past 3k rpm while on load.

The car later let me go past the 3k rpm mark after I replaced a new fuel pump but it wouldn't let me go past the 4.5k mark while on load. The shift lights would craw up to the 4.5k mark like you're hitting the rev limiter. The car drives fine and limp mode would only kick in when I floor the accelerator pedal (while at or near the second click). Would drive fine again after shutting the engine off. No lights on the dash as well.

I've spent thousands trying to fix this problem and they still couldn't fix it. Would this be anything related to the TPS? Asked them about it a few times but they told me that they couldn't identify any fault codes.

It could get worse.  Like so bad that nobody behind you could see.

In around 1 min my old E46 filled a 30 car under ground car park with thick white smoke.  Could hardly see your hand in front of you.

You can stop it from working if you cause a vacumn leak.  I was actually fixing a vacuum leak when I discovered mine had failed.  I am thinking someone did this to hide that it was failed when they sold the car to me.

Oh yours must have been really bad then. Mine was just minor white smoke with gas smell, more like the smoke you see when you start your car in a cold morning but constant. But it’s something that should be address asap when the parts arrives, the smell of the gas is toxic for others and the environment lol.

  19. On 5/10/2020 at 11:09 PM, Driftit said:

Yup. It will be. I filled an entire underground garage with white smoke when I reconnected a failed one.

Cool just ordered the parts required for it. Hope the shipping won’t be delay. Have a big drive coming up next weekend. Would it be okay if I still drive it with the failed CCV if it doesn’t show up before the drive?

  20. Hi this might be a long shot but just wondering if anyone has a rear bumper support bar for a e46 m3. My car used to have a towbar so the factory rear bumper support bar has been replaced with the tow bar. Unfortunately the previous owner has no idea where he put it. I cut off the tow hook and the bar is left inside. The only thing supporting the bumper is only each screw on both side of the bumper.

Sadly the right side of the bumper came loose on track last weekend, so it’s time for me to get a proper bumper support bar.

    Cheers team
