sorry to dig up an old thread but I have this problem with my E46. The water is only in the passenger side rear footwell, towards the rear by the base of the rear seats. I'm assuming this is the same problem as above and the same fix applies? I sat inside with the door shut and had someone hose the car properly but i couldn't see any water getting in. Is the dealer the only place to get this butyl rubber? Thanks heaps

I did something incredibly stupid - I chopped off the wiring between the mirror and holder thing. Obviously the remote central locking doesn't work anymore. I'm assuming if i got the same mirror and plugged it in, I should get my central locking back? and what's auto-dim? Mine's not that fancy, i have to twist the clown nose to dim.

On an old E36, the cooling system components will crap out one after another. I've been through this with my E36 which I also take to BM Workshop. In hindsight, I should have done a complete overhaul in one go. It would have saved me a ton in labour costs and hassle. BM Workshop didn't suggest this to me, they only replaced the failed item/s at the time. Yes it will cost a bit of money but less than if you fix one thing at a time. Each time you overheat the car, you run the risk of damaging your engine and/or other cooling system components. Case in point, when my waterpump went, the car overheated and caused a small leak in the 2 month old new radiator! What I ended up replacing over the course of about 4 months: radiator (twice in 2 months) expansion tank* water pump radiator hoses* radiator cap* thermostat thermostat housing *did these myself

as above, must be in good nick with wiring and harness etc so i can just plug it in. I'm not sure how many different types there are and what other models share the same mirror but mine receives the signal from the key fob to operate door locks. thanks

is this a good alignment?

sorry to dig this thread up but i just wanted to post the alignment specs after my second visit. As you can see, the alignment is now mostly sweet. 3pedals - thanks for your comments. I take it that the most likely cause of the castor being out is a bent left control arm? -
took it back to the shop today, problem sorted. Turned out to be a "faulty bulbholder".
-
Thanks for all the replies. I'm just gonna take it back to the panelbeater and have them sort it out at the insurer's expense. I'll see if I can get insurance to fork out on a new tail light.
-
So you just put up with the message on the OBC?
-
they're not aftermarket to my knowledge. i'm assuming the panelbeater sourced a used genuine one. they probably used one that had different pins to the original. anyways, taking the car back on tuesday.
-
lol...guess where I took it? Just got the car back today and have to say it's looking pretty good. It was only a small job and i figured any half decent place should be able to do it. That's why I couldn't be bothered going out of my way to Precision Autowerk or German Kolision Haus.
-
Just got my car back from the panelbeaters today after some minor work. They replaced the right side damaged tail light as part of the repair. Noticed that the message "Tail Light Failure" is showing on the OBC display but the lights are working normally. I can only take it back after the long weekend obviously but just wondering if there's an easy fix? Cheers
-
It's insurance work so I guess I'd want the best. Having said that, it's only very minor panel and paint work. I have heard about German Kolision and Precision Autowerk but neither are convenient to my location. Hence why I have narrowed down the list to those 3 who seem quite decent.
-
Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about these panelbeaters: Tony's Panel Beaters - Rosebank Rd, Avondale Exclusive Panel & Paint - Rosebank Rd, Avondale CRS Panel & Paint - Kent St, Newmarket Just looking to have some minor panel and paint work done. Cheers

The car in question is a 96 323i manufactured 02/96. There are 2 different parts here: - final stage unit (or "hedgehog") - blower resistor (as per pic in original post) RealOEM tells me my car has both parts. Given my problem (no fan at all, but everything else seems fine), which part do I need? I have automatic controls btw. Thanks
-
Hey chaps I'm pretty sure it's the final stage unit but just before I order the part, what is this other thing called a "blower resistor" p/n 64-11-8-391-749 (pic attached)? Just wanna be sure I get the right part. Cheers

can these fit any e46 sedan? What if the car's original seats are not electric and not heated?

What is the most likely cause of the left caster being out of spec? Worn strut mount? -

I ended up taking it back to the shop and the final alignment figures are now near perfect. My front caster is still out but that's not adjustable and not the shop's fault. The manager's a great guy to deal with. What happened was I took the car in on a weekend when the part-time tech was on duty. He was new and inexperienced hence didn't know how to adjust the rear properly. The tech who works during the week obviously knows his stuff and everything's now sorted. Car tracks straight and steering wheel is dead centre. -

height is standard as far as I know. so from what u guys are saying: front castor is not adjustable, which points to something wrong with the car? rear camber and toe is adjustable, which I'll get the shop to adjust? cheers for your input -

i'm taking it back -
got it to work in the end by reducing the size further. wonder what the size limits are?
-
Hey chaps, I've just had an alignment done because I had the tie rods replaced. The car seems to be tracking pretty straight although I'm not too happy about the steering wheel being off-centre. Also, the measurements don't seem right per the printout. I'm no expert so I dunno if this is a "reasonable" result. Shouldn't all the figures in the "final measurement" column be within target and hence in green, rather than red?
-
yep 737 pixels wide

I'm having the same problem. My pic's only 137kb so i don't think it's a size issue. Same error msg as OP.

I have the opportunity to buy a 328i "cheaply". I have not seen the car in the flesh but have seen photos. What i know about it: - valid wof and rego - dying jatco trans - ugly as 15" factory wheels - needs new brake pads, possibly rotors - body and interior in decent nick bar a small dent in one of the doors - intermittent overheating problems in the last few months (cooling system overhaul needed like all E36s) - sagging hoodlining (common obviously) - owner knows nothing about cars/BMWs (possibly not serviced that well) - possibly other problems not yet known? Question is - how cheap does it have to be to warrant taking a risk on it? 1500? 1000?
