I just insured my M3 with AA insurance (classic) and its $16 per fortnight. They said the only condition was that it wasn't driven regularly, and that it had to be kept in a garage...

Just an update. Just got the back from Bellars Motor Works. Went in for a full checkup. Replaced right front ball joint (control arm), besides that, everything is 100s. Underside is perfect with no corrosion. Vanos is 100%. Total cost for checkup, diagnostics and ball joint just over 1K. ??

So.... I purchased the UK import E46 M3 yesterday. https://www.trademe.co.nz/1833187514 The bodywork and interior are mint.....love the red interior. Also has the HK sound system. Some corrosion underneath and on the calipers, but looks minimal so far. It seems like HellBM is the recommended service provider, so I'll give Ray a call tomorrow and ask him to give it a once over and replace anything that needs replacing. Also need to check rear subframe. I'll report back as soon as I have an outcome.

Like buying the car, putting it in storage for 12 months after it's registered in your name, then only paying GST on 50% of the value of the car when it's imported. If you buy it and ship it immidiately you could claim the VAT (South Africa's version of GST, also 15%) back, but pay GST on the full value of the vehicle. As far as I know, there are no import duties on top of the GST. Shipping/freight can be pricey if you put the car in a container and ship it over, but pretty cheap if you put it on a vehicle carrier. (like the ones that come into Auckland harbor from Japan fully loaded every day of the week). It's worth doing some research....there are a LOT of collectible cars there.

There are a lot of Mint E46 M3's in South Africa. And i can tell you that South Africans look after their cars well. I could import a LSB with 100000km all costs included from South Africa for that price. The car looks amazing in the pics though, so i will pay a fair price if all checks out.?
