  1. Thought I'd try my luck to see what people have lying around. Not in too much of a hurry to get these but will source these parts at some stage.

I'm after hard to come by parts for my 840ci - in particular:

L/hand front indicator cluster lens, l/h rear side light lens, handbrake cable, sunrrof motor & module and probably many more parts!

I also have a set of 4 of genuine 16" 5 spoke alloys for an e34 - 3 are fitted with 225/55 tyres - that I'm keen to do a 'swap' kinda deal for 8 series parts.

    Cheers!

  2. Hi Greg,

I am also a E31 owner. I f you need any help or advice or need parts talk to Ross Lamb from BM Workshop Botany. Has worked on lots of 8's and is a good man (09) 271 6636. Regards, SS

Cheers for that. Always good to have contacts of knowledgable technicians regarding an 8 as they are hard to find!

I'm sure I will utilise Ross and his expertise.

    Much appreciated.

  3. The noise will either be a wheel bearing or a scalloped tyre

Thanks for advice. I have recently replaced RHD wheel bearing. I will do the LHD bearing to see if that cures the issue. If not then will investigate types etc.

Have been told by mechanic (bmw trained) that it could be a 'pinion' in the diff (ouch!).

  4. In the long run that could cost you more, time and time again I've heard about non-oem suspension parts lasting less than a year, in some cases a matter of months... so you could be up for replacing those parts in no time. With such a car as an 8 series I'd only use Boge/Lemforder sourced through Pelican Parts.

Appreciate the comments and yes agree its not ideal to replace with non-oem parts, especially 8er suspension components.

At the moment I have a long list of projects to bring the 8 upto a 'pristine' condition.

Priority at the moment is to address some minor leaks and minor mechanical work. I'm finding at the moment that being a UK import there is an issue with seized bolts underneath (although the underside has been apparently powder coated protected when in NZ by previous owner).

I've already spent considerable $$$ in 4 months of ownership due to this, so I had to look at a cost effective option to replace some bushes. However, I will replace with oem or Lemforder when I get to that stage again.

The love hate relationship has begun! However when in the drivers seat all the 'pain' goes away :D

  5. Not going to be of much help but if you manage to find a 8 series for parting I would also be keen, need so many odd bits for my car.

I have also found the E32/e34/e38 share a lot of parts with the 8, get the part number and search for it on something like realoem.com and it will tell you all the cars it was fitted on.

Cheers - I'll try your suggestion as I find realom is quite helpful.

8 series second hand parts are hard to come by as its quite a rare car here. I have heard of at least one that is being dismantled (in Auckland/Waikato I think). Contacted a guy about it just before xmas and was supposed to get back to me but haven't heard back from him yet. have been able to source some 'common' aftermarket parts like bushes, bearings etc that don't break the bank as much as original parts lol.

    Will let you know...

  6. I have a 1996 UK import 840Ci.

My current issue is the sunroof does not open or tilt. When switch is pressed nothing happens, no noise or movement - I have tested the switch which is fine. Circuit board in module shows no visible damage, no blown fuses and circuit at fuse box is fine. Sunroof opens manually using the hex key and opens fully and tilts. I suspect that the motor is not working.

Would also like to know if other model ie: e34/e39 etc sunroof motors and modules are interchangeable with an e31. Or does anyone have an e31 that they are dismantling? (May need other parts as well) before I source a second hand part to see if this fixes the problem.

    Any suggestions welcome!

Also I have a 'dronning' noise coming from the left rear when driving 60 mph - any suggestions on this will also be appreciated!

    Cheers!

  7. Do you have pics?

..and where did you get them recovered?

Picture now up - sorry I only have the one and no picture of rear seats but they are standard e34 and in good condition. These need to make way for the 8 series thats (hopefully) on the way!

I had these recovered by guy who has a workshop in Wellington - was organised by local Fibrenew agent here in Wellington.

  8. I have for sale a pair of genuine Msport front seats for an e34. They are black cloth and have had the seat bases recovered & passengers side bolster fixed and are in excellent condition. Cloth is not an exact match but they are very close. Work done by a local upholsterer.

These will also come with matching rear standard seating and front and rear seatbelts.

I am based in Porirua, Wellington.

Asking for $250ono. BARGAIN OF THE YEAR :-)

    Contact me 04 2382302 (evenings are best) or leave a message or call/text on 021 240 2486.

    Cheers!

    Greg
