  1. It has to be said, these older phones were beautifully made, the plastics, and general feel was made to last, guess that is why 1/2 off them still work even though they are 1-2 decades old...

The last three Nokias have all lasted 1-2 years, and generally feel like a crappy cheap product.

My dad back in the day had a few Moto Startacs on Bellsouth, what a net mobile, particularly with the coloured screen numbers!

  2. Well you should have some fun in that.

    What's the mileage on it?

If it's really high, changing the tranny fluid can actually make things worse...

Edit, I would agree with Ian above, the suspension is more than likely going to need a good spend of money on it. Trouble I found with my E34 was after doing some repairs on the suspension, it emphasized the age in the next part so that then needed attention. As you can imagine it got rather expensive, and the job was only 1/2 done so I figured it was best to flick the car up on TM before I went completely broke.

  3. Sorry for you loss mate. But I am with Andrew on this.

I would never ride a bike on NZ's roads. I don't trust the people around me when driving a car let alone riding a bike completely unprotected.

As sad is this sounds. My Dad has always called Cyclists and Motorcyclists 'Temporary Citizens'. And in a way he is right. Just look at the people who's hands you are placing your life in.

    Agreed.

I am with Andrew on this too.

  4. Well, with high mileage car, a good deal of suspension parts, drive links etc will need replacing if they haven't already been done.

If it's been a motorway driven car, then it will naturally be better than one thats done low speed down driving over bumps and what not.

In my old 540i 1993, which had 251,000ks I found it needed a fair bit of work (even though it was very tidy), from memory I spent around $1500 on the front suspension and engine/trans mounts, but doing that amplified the sloppy drive shaft bearing, and rear subframe/rear links so I was going to need to do all those as well, accept that was going to be at least another $2000 in parts + lots of labor in the garage.

Ultimately it's why I sold the car. Never bothered doing all that, I figured it just wasn't worth it in the end for what is still a somewhat slow car, even though it was a 540i

  5. Hmmm. I'd rather have every M car that existed than one of those, with lots of spare change.

At least you could enjoy those.. rather than having this overly expensive show case car parked in a garage 99% of the year.

    I wonder who owns it..

Also, yeah Eric T makes some excellent articles, my favorite Herald writer.
