  1. Final dumb question for the night- where on the housing is this elusive "S"?? Just been for a quick look & all I've found so far has been M & W, plus a bunch of numbers.

Starting to wonder if what I've bought might not be what I thought it was :(

Pretty sure its stamped / or painted on top of casing. Dont think my 3.64 had it maybe came off after time but was defs a slipper. Cant you test by turning one side whilst holding the other side and they should both spin in same directio..

Something along the lines of that. Dont quote me though :)

  2. Yep, An LSD center is the entire middle housing. You pull the side flanges out, which have shafts going into each side, then the center falls right out.

Then as you can see on the left side there are a bunch of bolts that are holding that ring gear to the center.

Are these the suckers that are tightened hardcore as?

  3. If you mean an open center converted to an LSD then no, You can only make a Limited Slip diff using a LSD housing which is a closed unit (has clutches and stuff inside you can modify to make it tighter). The open center is just a rotating gear housing of cogs really, Can't do anything with it.

Oh i see haha didnt understand it properly.

Im replacing the whole centre piece into my diff case though correct?

  4. Behind my number plate is paint. No backing at all.

Am wanting to purchase a cheap euro plate backing as im getting plates.

Unless someone has a red msport one iam willing to pay good coin for that.

I will attatch pic of the red surround i had on my old 325i last year.

    Cheers

  5. Yes it is as easy as that.

The LSD center can fit any diff (so long as it's for a small case or medium case you need the right center for each size).

You just pull the diff out, open it up, remove the axles and take the ring gear off the open center, put it onto the LSD center then put it back together.

You can DIY it, alot of people have. I did one in my last, changed my open 3.64 bought an LSD center and swapped it in. Though I bet someone here will chime in get it done properly at a diff shop - Which is probably the smart thing to do if your cautious about things ;)

Oh cheers bro, im keen as to diy it. Im cautious but i will cut corners also haha if i get confused then il ask for help :P

How longs it take to do?

  6. I have a 4.1 open diff in my 1990 325i

I see on ebay for a lil over $300 nz i can get the insides of a 4.1 lsd shipped.

Is it a straight swap over, the insides of mine with this and hey presto i have a 4.1 lsd or is it a bit more complicated than unbolting diff amd swapping over?

  7. Hey guys I've got some E30 and E36 LSD diffs coming in around a month and I thought I'd let you guys get first dibs on them before they go on TM. The prices have increased substantially as they are getting harder to get but I think the prices I have below are pretty reasonable considering. These diffs are in good second hand condition and super clean and detailed- usually the rear covers arE blasted and the cases painted black.

I also can get an E24 3.46 and E32 750il 3.15 but would need to know asap.

Please PM me if you want to put your name on one thanks

    E30 3.73 $850

    E30 4.10 $900

    E30 2.93 $750

    E36 3.91 $900

    E36 3.15 $900

Man im so keen on a 4.1 but have so much other stuff to pay for :/ im thinking of getting my grandad to grab one cheap in the states . How much they weigh? And would duty tax come into effect?

  8. Getting sam from hell bm to do it.

I assume he will do it on hoist without having to remove engine as im sure thats what happened last year when i had a 325i converted

I will most probably be doing a minor rebuild and stroker next year and cambelts recently been done and cooling system overhauled.

  9. isnt that what you Silvia types want???? ;)

Hahaha thats so true. Well alright i think ive heard enough guys, i will just be paitient, dont want to have to have this project thread ending up with the last picture wrapped around a pole. Bimmersport comunity is awesome :)

Now how bout my nifty 5spd conversion ;)

  10. My wagon used to be a 520i auto, got that bad boy side ways on a few occasions unintentionally on Kingstars, and spun it out at one stage (mind you shouldn't have been doing what i was doing...). honestly the worst tyres i have ever had. have Potenzas now. well. i dont need to say any more.

Even the Triangle tyres on my Turbo Volvo were better than those Kingstars.

Id rather be forking out $800 on new tyres than using it to replacing fenders/lights/writing car off

Mannn thats depressing haha i want them because i can pickup a set for $200 just so i can get the damn things out my bedroom cupboard haha, just want them on the car and then change tyres later, and paint them later.

So you think its not worth it?

  11. Found some tyres for my rims!

    Kingstar 205/45/16r

do you like going backwards into hedges

    no grip kingstars

    Haha omg are you serious?

Theyre real cheapies because im not keen to fork out 800 on falkens until the cars done haha just want the rims on the thing

  12. Found some tyres for my rims!

    Kingstar 205/45/16r

Very good price on these :)

Will get them stretched on possibly this coming weekend.

    Then will sort paint after.

I managed to pickup most of my manual conversion.

Will need to go back and pick up flywheel and pedal box and a few other little bits.

Looks in allgood condition apart from a little rubber bush needing to be replaced. Looks like itl be a mission to degrease it but its something i want to do so it looks nice from the undercarriage.

This wont be going in for about 2 months. And some more bloody bills to pay this week so it will slow progression down even more :(

I also had a talk to fadi at mts in wairau about springs, looks like im going for the compressed springs and shortened shocks until i can get adjusties. Also need 5mm spacers and hubcentric locator rings so that everything goes smoothly.

need to win lotto to speed up this project :P

  13. Hey guys,

Checkout my build thread if you havnt seen it.

    http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....=43649&st=0

    I have a 1990 325i e30 bmw

I swapped my 1990 318i coupe for a getrag 260 manual conversion for my 325i

Before i put it in (2-3 months) i will be degreasing the parts, replacing clutch, checking pressure plate and flywheel, shift linksge and driveshaft etc and replace anything if it needs to be done and then will be getting the box painted.

So that will be done before i take out the auto.

    The Auto Box:

It runs real good, has 175ks on the clock and i assume it hasnt been thrashed.

Does amybody know roughly the selling value of these gearboxes as i will be selling it when its out.

    Cheers

    Jordan

  14. i have a 3.91 medium case lsd for sale

    also a 3.25 lsd

    $850

Will keep in mind brent. Can score a 4.1 lsd medium case for $450 and get grandad to bring back from america. If that fails i will get back to you mate :)

  15. I'm just going to go out on a limb here & say IMO it looked better with the original grille rather than the black. ^_^

Dont worry, im suprised it mever got picked up earlier :P

But that is why i bought a black grille, so i could swap back if nescary :)

  16. GL with the manual conversion mate I will be keen to hear your experience about it, especially the auto vs 5-speed comparsion once it is done. Contemplating a conversion myself.

Got my 325i last year converted before i sold it. With a lsd in it man it was awesome. That car drove nice amd sounded sweet. They pack a sh*t load of power. Id reccomend it bro. And also your grille should be at mine sometime soon hopefully this week. Il get the conversion done after its all paintes and that but keep an eye out in the next month or two :)

  17. Do you have any details??

Also Do you know the difference between the getrag and the zf??

Getrag is for the m20 and also for a m40 dunno the difference between the m20 240 box or m40 240 box

Zf is for the e36 i think but can work on an m20.

Dont know the ins and out but apparently it came off a 320i e30.

    Il pm you the number

    Cheers
