  1. Yuen, it was about 90 minutes of free booze and food, before they unveiled the cars.

Oh I see, still wish I could have been there though!

To the guys who are saying the 335i wasn't impressive, I'm very surprised, because all I've heard about it is how good it is. Have any of you test driven it yet? As that seems to be the most impressive bit, some people even say it feels (note, feels!) faster than the E46 M3.

And here's a video from a fellow member of another forum, he videotaped his round of a hot lap with a professional driver driving the 335i at one of the BMW marketing days in the USA.

  2. I like the CHs on most cars, but I think it detracts from the racer look of the CSL, the CSL wheels fit it better. Maybe a 5 spoke design or BBS RS-GT would be better :) But still, $3000 for those wheels plus tyres is a pretty good deal.

Not surprising that you say the CHs are heavier, they're one of the heavier wheels from BBS. RC would be a good choice for lightweight wheels. My 17x8" RCs weighed out at 6.x kg. Did you weigh the CHs and the OEM CSLs?

  3. Looking good man, it's fibreglass right? So the moldings and lip are all integrated into the bumper, as one piece? I thought fibreglass bumpers had to be fitted at shops because they have to use glue or whatnot. I'm surprised you could bolt it on just like a stock ABS one.

  4. You're talking about the 'angel eyes' headlights, not the angel eye rings, right?

If so, it's different. Sedan and coupe use the same headlights, but they use different corner indicators. Since the 'angel eyes' headlights have both integrated, the indicator end will be different.

  5. I've always wanted to make my E36 320i fast too, but lately I've been thinking... sell all the mods, and save up for a while, and get an actual M3, you can get an E36 M3 for cheap, E46 M3 for relatively cheap in a few years, or even a 335i will be possible if you save up for a while. Get the real deal and save the headache :) In the end all the money you spend modding your car will be close to what you pay for a fast car that came like that stock.

  6. Hey Jazzbass, how are the previews like? My friend had an invitation to the Team Mcmillan one and was gonna bring me along, but he said that it was more of a wining and socialising session rather than seeing the cars. Is it true or is it more about the cars than anything, which I would expect to be so?

    Btw the Z4 Coupe = MZ4?

  7. I have an E36 320i, and I wouldn't get it if I were you, it's just underpowered for what it is. At least a 325 if you are getting an E36, try a 328 if possible if you're not going for the M. The 320 is just too sluggish, and in terms of fuel consumption it's similar to 325/328 (compared with Dnz and another friend of mine) and perhaps M3. So I suppose it's not as efficient.

  8. yep Daytona Violet :D

The tailpipes are slightly offset, i.e. one is slightly shorter than the other one. It goes with the curve of the bumper.

Ah Daytona Violet :D It's a nice colour. In the pic the tips really look crooked (one up, one down, like a mount is loose or something) instead of just being staggered, I've never seen staggered tips give that effect. But maybe it's the angle at which the picture was taken.

  9. I ended up buying a 1996 Evo sedan, I looked and looked also however the one's with lowest K's were all smg. 90% of the people I spoke to put me off these. this included BMW dealers who had one for sale! My car is a very rare colour called Byzanz. Sedan only colour I had to look it up on the internet to see what the hell this colour was. A sedan is fine by me as I have kids and p/up clients etc. I always find that just after you buy a car another one just whatt your after pops up.

Jerry Clayton charges $145 to do the inspection, and i would rather have a main dealer check it than anyone else ( i had them do a vanos check on mine ). That said if i can't find it I will ring them for you and ask them to give it to you, Hans is the guy to deal with.

I remember seeing a Byzanz M3 on TradeMe, it's a 6-speed right? Love how it looks, M3 sedan in a rare colour, who could ask for more?

Good luck on the search for your M3 p1_m3, don't rush it, take your time and you'll get what you're looking for!

  10. Are you in Akld?

The car is a Hamilton car of a friend of mine.

I know his might be ODBII but mine is a '97, has the BMW diagnostic connector in the engine bay, no ODBII connector inside the car.

    >> read the code description off a manual.

Can you scan and email me the relevant manual pages?

I'd love to set up a database...

    Jochen

Yup, I'm in Auckland. I've been inside a facelift (2000/2001) E39 and it's got the OBD port inside the car, maybe only the later models got it since yours is an early one.

Don't think scanning the manual will work, as the Peake tool uses its own 2 digit codes (ie: C6 = Oxygen sensor, etc) for a certain model (eg: 2001 E39) and you look in the manual to check what that code means for that particular year and model BMW. So even if you had the codes they will have no relevance to the BMW ones. But I'll double check to confirm that is the case :)

  11. Contact adhesive? Do you mean you glued the corner to the headlight?

Personally my clips on the corner have broken every time I get them out. And every single time, I epoxy it back.

Bad design on the indicators, many people have a hard time unclipping it from the headlight, and once some sort of screwdriver goes in to try to free it, something usually breaks. For me it was the lousy plastic clip on my aftermarket ones. OEM should have better plastic that doesn't crack that easily. The rails are quite tough but if you put a screwdriver in there in an attempt to free it it will break.

  12. It works the same as any other E36 I believe. I bought a rear view mirror from a 98 M3 and fitted it onto my 92 E36, no problem (save for the extra wiring - auto dimming). I just put it on on an angle into the 3 way locking thing attached to the windshield and twist it into place. Sounds like you've tried that though so in that case I don't know.
