  1. How much we talking? And is it a straight bolt out bolt in affair? It's the gfs car so thats would be a last resort, id rather change the current transmissions lockup speed if possible.
  2. 94 E36 3 Series, M42 motor, 4 speed automatic. The torque converter wont go into lockup until 100k indicated, which is far too high IMO, plus it creates excess wear on the trans and motor and uses more gas. Is it possible to adjust the speed that the TC locks up at?? If so, how is it done? Thanks
  3. Cheers Yuen Got it sorted earlier today Other thing I noticed today (im a fussy bugger - and its not even my car!) is that I have no oil light. Is this bulb the same as the dash illumination lights? And how does the dash come out to get at it? Thanks
  4. Missus - 94 E36 318iS Me - Depends what takes my fancy on whatever day - Toyota Hiace or 61 Ford Zephyr usually, but also have the option of 56 Ford Zephyr, 94 Mitsi Delica of 94 520i
  5. Well since I have the gfs car for a bit, I may as well try and fix some of the niggly little things that are broken on it. Like the dash lights. Now, this is more of an assumption than a known fact - but I guess that all the heater controls/fan/direction/aircon etc should light up. Currently only the 3 buttons (recirculate/air con/demist) light up, bt none of the rest of it. Same goes for the headlight controls. Do these light up? And if so, then what bulbs do they use and how do I get at the bulbs to replace them? Thanks In Advance.
  6. Nah it was leaking from up under the manifold, that was obvious. But all sorted now thanks to Glenn at Botany Auto Worx. Now theres just the lights and bits to sort out sigh. Side note to Glenn - the idle control switch was unplugged and as you said it might, stalled upon being plugged in. Tinkered with the adjuster screw on the manifold and got it idling around 750 now, thanks
  7. The missus E36 318iS leaks fuel, intermittently too I'll add. But usually just after statup and it absolutely pisses out of the engine bay. Anyways after some small investigation I could see that fuel was running down the high pressure line for the intake manifold, but no amount of feeling or reaching would let me get to the end of the pipe to see where it leaks. Anyways, asked a mechanic mate of mine and he suggested a wrecker to go and ask see if the problem might be a common one. Whilst there, I had a look at an engine the same but out of the car - and thats when i spotted that under the intake mainfold theres a small piece of tube about an inch long that joins the high pressure line to what I assume is the inlet pipe for the manifold. I'm thinking that this little rubber tube or it's assocaited hose clamps may be the source of my trouble. I need to take the top of the intake manifold off to get at it to see if this is the problem or not (you cant see the pipe when the motor is in the car). Does anyone have any hints/tips to removing the intake monifold or any traps I should look out for? Also, is ordinary off the shelf Dexron 2 ATF fluid alright for the trans - it's sposed to be a lifetime fill, but it's low on trans fluid so I'm gonna change it out. Its got a green label on the bottom of the bigger sump (trans has 2x sumps) saying use BMW part numbers blah blah blah and then in brackets Dexron II. Could anyone confirm please. Thanks
  8. Lol, me being me and all - Mr Observant, but they moved the M badge to the other side of the boot lid. That something you asked for or something they did?
  9. Missus just bought a 1994 318IS, 4 door sedan, 110kms Goes alright, previous owner said it's chain not belt, that correct? Anything we should be looking out for in particular? It's gonna be her car to learn in for her licence (hopefully the car in the yard might persuade her to get her learners! hehe), so could get a rough time. Thanks
  10. Hey guys, shes bought a 1994 318IS. Dunno if thats any better than a run of the mill 318 but anyways. 110 clicks, just been serviced. Has some body scratches but excellent interior. Seller says they're chain driven? Is that correct. Anything we should be looking out for mechanically?

  18. They don't accelerate THAT badly. My one des alright for what it is I suppose lol
  19. Well hopefully lol I've flushed it out and put antifreeze in it, and taken it for a good 120k run and it looks to be fine now with the new pump etc. Now I just gotta sell it
  20. How much for the front seats out of the 89? And also the rear speakers from the same car? Thanks
  21. What's the best/most effective way of flushing a cooling system out. I've got the pump out of the block and would like to flush it out to get rid of any small bits of metal there may be in there, although i can't see nor feel any. And it probably won't do it any harm.
  22. Got replacement water pump for this face Lift 318I here, got it all apart and now struggling to get the pump out of the block. I tried using those spare bolt holes to help get it out, turning each a little at a time while knocking the pump back and forth with a hammer to try and work it out but was unsuccessful in my attempts - one bolt snapped and the other side actually broke a piece off the pump with the bolt attached lol. Anyone got any tricks or ideas as to how to get it out now? Or anyone willing to help? Thanks
  23. Merry Xmas All! Don't drink and drive
