  1. Well since I have the gfs car for a bit, I may as well try and fix some of the niggly little things that are broken on it.

    Like the dash lights.

Now, this is more of an assumption than a known fact - but I guess that all the heater controls/fan/direction/aircon etc should light up. Currently only the 3 buttons (recirculate/air con/demist) light up, bt none of the rest of it. Same goes for the headlight controls.

Do these light up? And if so, then what bulbs do they use and how do I get at the bulbs to replace them?

    Thanks In Advance.

  2. Nah it was leaking from up under the manifold, that was obvious. But all sorted now thanks to Glenn at Botany Auto Worx.

Now theres just the lights and bits to sort out sigh.

Side note to Glenn - the idle control switch was unplugged and as you said it might, stalled upon being plugged in. Tinkered with the adjuster screw on the manifold and got it idling around 750 now, thanks :)

  3. The missus E36 318iS leaks fuel, intermittently too I'll add. But usually just after statup and it absolutely pisses out of the engine bay.

Anyways after some small investigation I could see that fuel was running down the high pressure line for the intake manifold, but no amount of feeling or reaching would let me get to the end of the pipe to see where it leaks.

Anyways, asked a mechanic mate of mine and he suggested a wrecker to go and ask see if the problem might be a common one. Whilst there, I had a look at an engine the same but out of the car - and thats when i spotted that under the intake mainfold theres a small piece of tube about an inch long that joins the high pressure line to what I assume is the inlet pipe for the manifold.

I'm thinking that this little rubber tube or it's assocaited hose clamps may be the source of my trouble.

I need to take the top of the intake manifold off to get at it to see if this is the problem or not (you cant see the pipe when the motor is in the car). Does anyone have any hints/tips to removing the intake monifold or any traps I should look out for?

Also, is ordinary off the shelf Dexron 2 ATF fluid alright for the trans - it's sposed to be a lifetime fill, but it's low on trans fluid so I'm gonna change it out. Its got a green label on the bottom of the bigger sump (trans has 2x sumps) saying use BMW part numbers blah blah blah and then in brackets Dexron II. Could anyone confirm please.

    Thanks

  4. Gf is looking for a car, not sure what exactly so tell me what you got.

Maximum budget of $6000. Shes expressed an interest in 3 series BMWs. Has to be after 1994 and must be NZ New or have a serivce history (dads conditions). Would like something around 100,000km, and that has had it's 100,000k serivce done (cambelt etc) with receipts. She's specificed it must have some street cred too.

    So, what ya got people!?

For what it's worth, if you need a work licence I can give the name and number of the Lawyer who did mine. Shes real good.

Cost me $500 only as well, which is damn cheap. Next cheapest was like $1000 plus court fees.

  8. Yea its pretty good, and yes some people do flip out, but part of my job is to go crazy and smash a big steel cage to bits with a metre of scaffolding pole haha so if anyone flips out at me they get a good taste of pole in the back of their head when they walk out from underneath me :P

Good for people that think they are tough. It sorts them out B) and believe me, alot of guys get shamed out in front of their other half :)

Oh so you're the pain the ass I have to duck under. Hate being tall there.

  9. I didnt have my fone with me.. was instant reaction to just jump in the car.. i looked but didnt wanna lose them, last time they pulled up outside my house like they thiefed my brothers computer out from the car.

You hoon round with your horn and hazard lights on in a 318 with 2 huge arse mofos following you and decide how safe u'd feel.

You overestimate the acceleration of a 318 :P

They don't accelerate THAT badly. My one des alright for what it is I suppose lol

  10. Got replacement water pump for this face Lift 318I here, got it all apart and now struggling to get the pump out of the block.

I tried using those spare bolt holes to help get it out, turning each a little at a time while knocking the pump back and forth with a hammer to try and work it out but was unsuccessful in my attempts - one bolt snapped and the other side actually broke a piece off the pump with the bolt attached lol.

Anyone got any tricks or ideas as to how to get it out now? Or anyone willing to help?

    Thanks
