  1. Hi everyone, My dearly loved Series 4 Grand Coupe has finally reached the time to have all the brake's renewed. I dreaded the day and here it is. The car is from 2017 and out of warranty, so I was thinking to bringing it to an independent mechanic rather than official dealer but the cost still is way over 2,000 dollars, which leaves me wishing I could afford it but that might take quite a few months savings. I brought it to a workshop here in Wellington to be checked and was told it needs all four changed, rotor, pads, the lot. Any advice on how to get that cost down somehow? Any of you have advice on how to change those yourself? Is it doable? Or perhaps getting the parts from overseas (how to get the right one..?) and then bringing the car to have them fitted somewhere? I am really in uncharted territory here and for now I will keep the car in the garage as I do not want to risk driving around with worn brakes.. Really appreciate any info/advice on this! Thank you very much, Joan
  2. Good Morning All, I bought a F30 BMW320D 2016 the mileage is 59000km. As per the service history everything all consumables has been changed on regular basis. Once already the break liquid has been changed. My question is when do I need to change the cooling liquid, the oil of the gear box, the oil of the differential etc etc. I would appreciate your thoughts and assistance please. Thank you in advance.
  3. Hi there, looking for some advice on the go to first maintenance bits to do on a car that has been stored for a decade in a garage, it has been run and driven occasionally (total 500km). What are the first things to get done and tackle. Any advice greatly appreciated! Cheers
  4. Hello all, I am new to the forum as well as the mighty BMW engines. I am interested in purchasing an M52 or similar in the future, and would like to know typical costs that one could expect for a rebuild. Not a full rebuild, but including the following: All seals and gaskets Pumps (water and oil) Other consumables. Has anyone done a similar rebuild and would know the costs? Appreciate the help greatly! Maunde
  5. Hello everyone, As I mentioned in the general discussions, I am looking to purchase an M52 or similar in the near(ish) future. Before I swap the engine into the car, I would like to know which upgrades are most recommended. I am not going for power, I am going for reliability. I am currently aware of the two following reliability upgrades: - Replacing thermostat housing with aluminium. - Replacing waterpump pulley with aluminium Are there any other big things to replace that will improve the reliability? At this stage I would not be interested in replacing cam, crank or pistons. Thanks again for the help, Maunde
  6. Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I bought a NZ new 1986 E30 318i just over a year ago. Its the chrome bumper version, great condition, on the original plates, and was a one owner car before me (actually 2 owners, but in the same family). It came with a full service history- main agent until around 50kms, then independent garage and had been barely used for a number of years. I bought it in Auckland and drove it to Wellington without any problems. The car has just turned over 80,000kms (from new). I live in Lower Hutt and want to get it checked over in the first instance to see what needs doing now, what will need doing in the future, to look after it well. Any recommendations as to who would be good for servicing an E30? Thank you all
