Installation Installation can be performed by any qualified auto electrician. We have set up various installers with the capacity/training for installing BlackHawk’s and can direct you to the nearest one if you would like. For this, please contact us on [email protected] or call 0800 BLACKHAWK (0800 252 254). Cost for install varies depending on where you would like to install it and who is installing the unit. A simple install may cost between $50 and $150; a more complicated install costs upwards of $100. Alternatively, an installation manual comes with the unit, Please be aware that self installation voids the warranty and guarantees. GPS tracking GPS stands for Global Positioning System. This technology is a constellation of 24 satellites that orbit the earth and make it possible for people with ground receivers to pinpoint their geographic location. To get a fix the receiver must see at least 3 satellites. This technology can also work out the speed and direction of the receiver. Accuracy can vary depending on the receiver used. The BlackHawk Tracking Systems use a highly sensitive medium accuracy GPS receiver, giving approximately 25m accuracy but get a location fix almost anywhere inside the car. The BlackHawk system also uses GPRS to help track the vehicle and report back to either your mobile phone or the website www.theblackhawk.co.nz Geo Fencing A geo fence is an invisible perimeter or fence that is set around your vehicle. You can set this feature with a text message to the system from your mobile phone and if your vehicle moves outside the set perimeter, you will be sent a text message to inform you of this. To unset this feature, you text the system again to remove the fence. There is no cost to your BlackHawk account to set or unset the fence. Your account will be charged the cost of a text if the geo fence alerts you. Remote vehicle immobilisation This is an optional feature in the BlackHawk system. From your mobile phone, you can text your vehicle to immobilise it (by various methods) for example, stopping the engine running or stopping the fuel from reaching the engine) at the next time the vehicle slows to less than 5 km/hr. The system has dual immobilisers, so there are two different ways for immobilisation, this will be decided by the installers. For this feature, you must have a certified auto electrician install the unit that will guarantee his work. For a list of suggested installers in your area, please email [email protected] with your region. Crash sensor/Impact notification If your vehicle is involved in an accident with a force great enough to give you whiplash (stopping a vehicle travelling at 48km/h in 0.3metres), a text message will be sent out to your nominated friends and family saying that you have been in an accident and give your location. The unit will not alert to low impact accidents such as collision with shopping trolleys. Panic button With the press of a button that is installed for easy access, a text message will be sent out to your nominated friends and family saying that you are in trouble and give your location. Excessive speed/Speed monitoring The BlackHawk system can monitor the speed at which your vehicle is travelling. You can log into the website and go to the settings page to activate this feature. Here you can set and change the speed you would like it activated at. Once activated, you will receive a text message saying your vehicle is travelling at more than the set speed. Remote door lock/unlock This is an optional feature in the BlackHawk system. Your vehicle must already have central locking for this feature to be applicable. From your mobile phone, you can text the BlackHawk system to lock your doors, handy if you lock your keys in the car or if you are in a meeting and cannot remember if you locked your car or not. Tracking from the web or mobile You can track your vehicle from the website www.theblackhawk.co.nz or from your mobile phone. For a demonstration of the website, please go to www.theblackhawk.co.nz/demo.asp and zoom in. You can view the map in one of three modes; normal map views, satellite views (so you can actually see structures & buildings etc) or a hybrid view which incorporates both the satellite picture with the map overlaid. From your phone, you will receive a text message back with the closest street address to where your vehicle is. Why thieves won’t know its there There are three main reasons why thieves won’t know the unit is in the vehicle. Firstly, the BlackHawk has completely internal aerials, so there is no tell tale GPS aerial on the outside of the vehicle. Secondly, the size of unit is such that you can hide it almost anywhere. The car unit measures 113mm long and 64mm wide while the Motorcycle unit is 74mm square. Finally, the sensitivity of the GPS receiver is extremely high, you can install the unit almost anywhere in the vehicle and it will still receive signal. If thieves break into the vehicle, they will automatically look in one or two places for alarms etc, now you can install this system in a completely different place to where systems are usually installed. Why get a BlackHawk? There are two main focuses of the BlackHawk Vehicle Tracking System with many benefits in each. Vehicle protection is mainly looking at vehicle theft and recovery, while personal protection is looking after you and your family while in the vehicle. When someone steals your vehicle, there are various impacts and thoughts that occur. Someone that does not own your vehicle, or have any right to it has taken it and will (in over 90% of cases) get away with it. You are left without a vehicle and now must rely on friends and family to get you from place to place. You have lost your vehicle, potentially something you have been working on for a long time and the value to you is probably more than what the insurance company will pay out. Your insurance premiums will now go up as you have lost your no claims bonus. Personal protection in vehicles reaches new heights with the BlackHawk system. If your vehicle is in an accident, your friends and family are immediately notified with your location You can monitor the speed of your vehicle, if it goes over the speed you have set, you can be notified. This is perfect if you lend your vehicle to someone and want to ensure they are complying with your rules. If you get in trouble, your vehicle can send a text with your location to loved ones at the push of a button. Insurance premium benefits There are insurance benefits if you install a BlackHawk system in your vehicle. Depending on your insurance company, you may get zero theft excess and/or reduced premiums. BlackHawk Tracking Systems is working all the time to expand the list of insurers that support the BlackHawk system.
