Munts316i 0 Report post Posted May 20, 2004 okay, thats cool, i was expecting little things like that anyway, but are the cars all the same size?like length width?etc im sort of planning what i can do in the next few years now, so of cource i'd get bigger brakes and better shocks and suspension before doing any engine swaps. There were 7 different shells (unibody chassis) in total.
Gus 5 Report post Posted May 21, 2004 I am planning on using the same suspension set up, and exhaust (seeing mine is leaking more and more and getting louder and louder). So I have more than just a passing interest in your finished product. me too!

Yes the cars are all basically the same .There are no differences between the bodies that concern the engine swap from 4 to 6 cylinder. As long as you get all the parts that are particular to the engine you want to fit eg ,ECU,engine wiring, gearbox, diff, radiator, engine mounts, brakes, springs, sway bar etc, it all bolts straight in.Some car need a small change to their wiring but this is dependent on the year of the car/engine & only involves 11 wires
Guest Andrew Report post Posted May 21, 2004 Car has motor in - but this is the interesting bit - the 323 head i'm using actually has higher compression than the 325 head.. meaning the pistons where touching a bit of the head when cranked manually - so a bit of the cylinder head has been machined out. The upside of all of this is the compression ratio will be around 9 to 9.5 :1 .. Should be bringing it home Monday. They are just doing all the plumbing. OLLIE 26 Report post Posted May 21, 2004 i went and saw it today those buckets look badass, so did that engine with the head off and no plumbing done, the pistons look nice, so when you gettin it back??

Guest Andrew Report post Posted May 24, 2004 well went to pick up the car today , they were just finishing it off - they were driving it (before the clutch was bled) and went to bleed the clutch and nothing worked.. so I need a new master or slave cylinder. This is getting annoying. Should be bringing it home tommorow - seat needs to be raised and car fulled checked over. Then again I should have been bringing it home 3 days in a row now. :banghead:
Gus 5 Report post Posted May 24, 2004 when ya gonna scan the invoice in and post it up? just quietly..shouldnt they not have been driving the car with the clutch unbled?? could that have not helped the MC or SC failure along?
Guest Andrew Report post Posted May 25, 2004 Well - have a car sitting in my driveway - wait a min it looks just like the old one ... on the outside. A couple of words - This is BMW driving at its most unadulterated - no sound proofing - no rear seats, ahhh the sweet whine of the diff and exahust. This would have to be the smoothest m20 I have ever seen, balanced and blueprinted. Yes - its incredibly torquey - 3rd gear at 40 kph full gas gave wheelspin. The 323 head and unusually high compression is responsable for that. I have yet to explore above 4500 (doctors orders) but the way it revs is so quick (lightened crank + flywheel). As for handling - amazing - I would recommend the Jamex/Bilstien/Urethane bushes combo to everyone + a manual rack. The turn in is so direct - the back bushes aren't in yet. I won't post any pics till its finished. (Still Tinting/Exhaust - some painting to do).

Have like a "m e g a m e e t" I couldn't believe how quick the speedo moved - had to time it behind dads car to get proof. Yeah I was thinking how cool a megameet would be - a bit of planning and a middle ground - perhaps Taupo again? More to think on.
