dmorland 0 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 (edited) Hi I have an E46 2004 330ci with standard BMW Business head unit and standard speakers. From what I have read the speakers are poor quality so replacing these can make a big difference. Can anyone suggest what I should replace them with or recommend a company that would offer good advice? (I am in Auckland). thanks Edited July 7, 2007 by Dave NZ
bravo 35 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 Paul Money car audio 83 View Road Mt Eden - Get them when they are not busy so you can actually get a chance to talk to one of the guys. They know what they are talking about and won't put you wrong. Failing that, any name-brand speaker that fits will be better than stock. Anything more than a $100-150 set won't be worth it unless they are amped.
HELLBM 1557 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 I am breaking down a 330ci with Harmon Karmen sounds {12 speakers) Call if interested. Also upgrade suspension, eibach swaybars front and rear etc. Regards Ray 0212HELLBM
lidistick 70 Report post Posted July 7, 2007 What's your budget? Madsoundz in Hamilton have a wicked deal. I managed to pick up Alpine DD Drive for $400. One rung below the F1 speakers and very very good. Needs an amp tho to shine but definitely worth it. Retail on these puppies are $750. Paul Money will do the Alpine Type R's for $329 (not installed and you need an amp) Alpine Type X are about $650 and one rung below the DD Drive/DD linear. Cheers. rogan 7 Report post Posted July 8, 2007 Don't go for the Alpine type R, they're not that great for the money IMO. Personally I'd definitely consider Ray's Harmon Kardon set, not sure if you're all wired up for it but could actually be your easiest option. If you 're going for something different that the HK set up then probably just go 2 way front as the number of speakers in your car isn't really important. Manufacturers like to have huge numbers of speakers for their marketing department, I can point you to 5 speaker set ups that would sound heaps better than a 12 speaker set-up. At one stage i ran 13 speakers in my Alfa, it's now down to 11 and I'm seriously looking at just having 5 without sacrificing any sound quality or volume. If you're wanting a sub, there's a super special on Image Dynamics about to start at Car Stereo Specialists on the North Shore.

FYI: if your car is a Jap-import, then did you know you can reprogram your radio to NZ mode? No need to fit a band expander.
