di you build this engine up ,.

my mate has got a black 89 nz new 325iA black with recaro's leather , obc ,sunrrof etc etc .

motor has been cooked a couple of times (previous idiots) but he has a 525e engine sitting in garage also a 2L head , a 2.3hartge H23 head and S/S headers also the 2.3block from the heartge head .

what do we need to know to make it all work .

we thought the 2.3hartge head fitted to the 2.7block and hooked up with the 325i ecu /loom etc and get the ecu reprogrammed .

any thoughts .

ps , also do a 5spd conversion while we are at it .

^^ i should have a sticky in performance section on this

basically, the 731 (320 and 323) head bolts up to the e bottom end fine..both heads you have should be this, use the H23 one definately. use the 325i loom/ecu/intake manifold/afm/injectors and you should be fine..if the H23 has a slightly more lumpy cam than stock i have heard of around 190hp with a decent amount of torque, making a cheap easy n decent engine.

problem with the 885 (325i) head is that its made for the 325i domed pistons so loses a lot of compression if you do it that way

Absolutely.. The H23 head will match with the 2.7 block no probs, just make sure the head has been fully checked over and set by a specialist, I used Gary @ cylinder head specialist on the shore, he's very good. The other thing you will need to do is drop the pistons out and have the block skimmed (1mm), then replace them with modified facelift M20 high compression pistons which will raise the compression to around 10.0:1/10.5:1. It should net you around 200-210HP with the 325i ECU you have. If he wants to take it further let me no and i'll give him the full specs of my engine.. hope that helps :)

Im not running the Motronic ECU, opted for a more suitable replacement..

hi, so you got a better ecu? where from? i am wanting to turbo my 325i and apparently need another ecu?
