str8_6 270 Report post Posted May 17, 2004 1990 e34 525i had that m20 2.5 12 valve (same as in the e30 325) Perfectly suited to the 3 series, but much more of a dog in the heavier car... When the e36 came out, the e34 got the newer engine... around about 1991 named the M50 2.5 24 valve. This engine delivers approx 192bhp and has a chain instead of a cam belt.
