Can u use a starter motor from another model?

Hey all, just a quick question as not really in the know about this stuff but can a starter motor from a '86 325I five speed be used on my '86 318 auto as a straight swap?

Also, not being an expert. But the 318 is a 4 cylinder and the 325 a 6 cylinder.

I would think the flywheels are different, so the answer I'd expect is no.

well id say it as a no for a different reason being manual starter motor to auto, i have a starter motor from a 6 cyl 320 in my 4cyl 318, e36's thoe

Starter motors on e30's are identical manual/auto.

Different part numbers, so suspect no.
