The 10 Cars F1 Drivers Own

Recommended Posts

1. Porsche Carrera GT - Mark Webber

The Australian racer drives Porsche’s fastest ever streetcar when he’s not cruising the world on the F1 tour. Interestingly The V10 engine was actually built for the Arrows F1 car, but the team went bust so Porsche put it to use in here instead. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 5mph

2. Audi RS6 - Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg The Audi RS6 looks like a company car but drives like a Porsche 911 that’s been stung by a wasp. With a 4.2l V8 engine that’s been tuned by Cosworth Technologies, it’s no surprise that Jeremy Clarkson once roared, ‘I think this is my favourite car… ever.’ How much slower is it than an F1 car? 36mph

3. Honda NSX - Jenson Button

Honda’s ‘experimental’ supercar looks as 1980s as Lionel Ritchie’s hair, and has rapidly become a bit of a cult classic, particularly amongst car modifiers. The chassis was designed by Ayrton Senna, so no real surprise that Button loves it. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 9mph

4. Maserati Quattroporte - Felipe Massa

More popular than even baby Bentleys in Premier League carparks, the Maserati Quattroporte is also popular amongst F1 drivers. Even those like Massa, who drive for Ferrari and could probably get an Enzo on staff discount. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 39mph

5. Fiat 500 - Michael Schumacher

Despite Fiat producing the “Fiat Schumacher†(a foul twist on what we call the Fiat Stilo) throughout Europe, Schuey prefers to motor in the tiny 1948 classic. Jarno Trulli also drives one of these mass produced bubble cars. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 150mph

6. Mercedes McLaren SLR 722 - Fernando Alonso

The Spanish champion was gifted the McLaren 5.5l V8 supercar by his team having brought home the championship two years in a row. Rumour has it they still have the receipt and might exchange it for some new wheels for Hamilton some time soon. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 1mph

7. Mercedes 280SE - David Coulthard

The square faced Scotsman has the most stylish car on this list by a country mile. Not only is the 1971 280SE one of Mercedes Benz’s finest ever machines, this one rolled out of the German factory the week David was born. Now that is class. How much slower is it than an F1 car? About 120mph

8. Brabus Smart Roadster - Lewis Hamilton

A Smart car might seem a bit of a disappointment for the driveway of Britain’s fastest man, but this isn’t your usual Smart car. Only 50 of these exist, and that’s because when you put a V6 engine in a plastic car, mad things happen. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 70mph

9. VW Beetle convertible - Nick Heidfeld

The self-proclaimed “Quick Nick†slows things down off the track, to drive in the much more laid back style of a VW Beetle. Controversial considering his team (BMW) produce the Beetle’s biggest rival, and Montoya’s favourite, The Mini. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 80mph

10. Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL - Nelson Piquet

Also favoured by John F. Kennedy and Frank Sinatra. The three-times Formula 1 champion enjoyed this car so much that he incurred a driving ban in his hometown of Brasilia, Brazil, and was forced to attend driving lessons. How much slower is it than an F1 car? 70mph
