I have tracked down another cheap 320i E30 which im using for my shell

im putting my 325i motor in it,

will be selling engine when i get it out

but im asking how do i identify what sought of gear box it is ??

it doesnt appear to have what the auto trans' have one it e.g. no plate with numbers or letters any where

so when i do take the trans out what numbers am i looking for? where are they located, and im sure you guys could probably tell me what sought of box that is huh?

Next, why it was cheap is cause the dash caught on fire, wires are all there, so how easy is it to rewire the dash?

i am prepared for the time involved, any diagrams you guys can point me to?

its just a straight swap from my 325 to the 320? any looms need to be changed ??

The gearbox will have numbers either stamped on a flat area of the outside of the bellhousing, or occasionally they can be found stamped inside the bellhousing. They will most likely start with 240 or 260 unless it had the dogleg box.

Do you need any wiring to replace the fire damaged stuff?? I have all the dash wiring for a E30 that I am about to throw out, you can have it if it's of any use to you.

yep.

The only "special" box would be a dogleg - that's the one with 1st left and down instead of left and up.
