Old_Skool_Bmw 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Hmm.. well a 4" gash to the side of my current MT tyre on Saturday pretty much rulled out that tyre ever being used again.. But it was kinda handy though as I'd been thinking of upgrading the tyres on the 4x4 for some time. After 'bartering' a pretty good deal for a new set i've decided to go for Maxxis Muzilla M8080's on the Safari. I'll run 33 x 13.5 x 15's until I turbo the 4.2L, then look to go to 35's when I have a bit more gas. (here's hoping the tyre shop doesn't pinch the inner tubes trying to fit the new tyres) PS: these things look rugged awesome what do you guys think?? Laurence. my_e36 43 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 It look mean, but must be noisy as hell on the road.
greenday-rulz21 6 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 4x4's are for off-road though!
my_e36 43 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Yeh I know, but they spend way more milage on-road then off-road. Can't they invent some James Bond style spikes or something like that in a tyre, so you got traction on demand? Like those in 007 - Die Another Day? bravo 35 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 (edited) They're useless on Northlands pipe clay, but they go hard in the swamps and not too bad on rock. My mate has them on his hilux - we give him sh*t about them making it look like a golf cart, but just josh'n'. I've got pirelli scorpions - cheap and the knobbles love the northland clay. Very similar to the BF Goodrich Wrangler M/T but better sidewalls (not to be confused with Goodyear Wrangler A/T's) Seen some simex extreme trekkers go hard too. Old_Skool_Bmw 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 will be using it for 80% off-road 20% on-road so these tyres won't wear too quicily hopefully. Was just reading that the tyres are rated to a max speed of 120kph! They will be pretty noisy on road but they should go good in the mud.. won't be too great for sidlings with the pretty agressive directional tread pattern.. might need to look into air lockers later this year Laurence. bravo 35 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 what wagon have you got Laurence?
cainchapman 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 Laurence, that Monster truck would be frightening at 120kph. They should get you up those hills in Wellington. Maybe when the cable car breaks down, you'll be able to give people lifts up to their cars on the tracks

Shouldn't have too many problems getting over things once the tyres are fitted.. Will have to wait to use them though, busy weekend coming up (was hoping to get out and try them this weekend). Old_Skool_Bmw 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2008 (edited) Nice one L. Alwatys another 2 weeks aye! Haha you got it! Everytime it gets close I wait another few weeks.. but well worth the wait. I'm beginning to think it's a 'mystery car' cos I haven't actually seen it since I sent it away in 2006 (you can come check it out when it arrives ) EDIT: M3 leaves for CHCH next WED/THU and will be there for 10days.
