WarlockNZ 0 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Heres the problem, When cold the the car rev's to hard and then drops into gear, I've been told that i can either live with the problem or spend $3000 to get it fixed as it is a common problem. Has anyone else had the same issue?? and if so what did it cost to fix?? Hmmm ... manual conversion ??? Thoughts please. Cheers

*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 Fix the transmission or go manual
Yuen 16 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 I say live with it or go manual. Not worth fixing IMHO.
joshnz 2 Report post Posted April 20, 2008 So many people have this issue, just wondering if someone could give a bit of detail into what is happening to make it jerk/rev hard etc. My E36 does this, I just flick it into sport mode then straight back into E even before I drive off, this seems to prevent it. WarlockNZ 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 hmm a bit of detail would be very good. Not only on why this issue is happening but on what a manual conversion is going to cost me .. LOL

WarlockNZ 0 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 If you don't want to put up with it, Drop a manual in it. Who quoted you 3k and to do what? yeah, but how hard is it to drop a manual in it, who can do it and what would it cost?? as to the 3k, all is was told is that the issue i have is common and that my mechanic's "trans guy" can fix it for 3 grand... personally, i think i can get any work done for a sh*t load less than that. I think the issue is just the age of the trans.
WarlockNZ 0 Report post Posted May 2, 2008 Well .. i found the problem, The trans was in mantaince mode. I plugged the laptop in and reset the transmission. Took it for a spin and the problem was gone, checked it again when i got home and it says that everything is OK. It can't be that easy, but bugger it.. Yuen 16 Report post Posted May 3, 2008 Was the problem before the car hanging on to first for longer than it should be (when cold), then shifting up to 2nd? So it's 100% fixed now, smooth changes warm or cold?

joshnz 2 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Do they have to be reset with a computer? or is there a way around that? disconnect battery?
*Glenn* 854 Report post Posted May 5, 2008 Do they have to be reset with a computer? or is there a way around that? disconnect battery? You can only reset adaptions with the right kind of scanner. Battery reset wont do it
