Stripped sump bolt hole

Recommended Posts

Hey people. Was pissed off to find the last owner was nice enough to use Hulk Hogan to tighten up the sump bolt on my M20.

It is pretty screwed. So my only option is to re-tap and get a bigger sump bolt.

Has anyone done this before? If so what size tap did you use and what thread pitch. And then of course I need to find a sump bolt to fit. Know of one that fits?

on the 325? must have been the owner before me if it is.

would it not be easier to find a second hand sump?

The thread's in the block, so new sump solves nothing.

You can get new threads inserted, would expect Glenn's got the gear, then you can keep all the bolts the same. Called a helical thread repair.

Are you sure David? The sump plug threads into the sump on an M20.

Either way, a helicoil would do the trick as you say.

Or just go down to your local Autoparts place, finnd a sump plug slightly larger than the original, then use the tap that matches to tap the thread.
