beelzebubs 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 Hi all, really need help here right, mate blew his 1991 auto e34 up, I wanted to change my 1994 auto e34 to maunaul so I offered him my engine and box and bought an 1993 e34 manual to caniblise well fitted the m50 vanos into his non vanos no problemo, runs revs and doesnt blow the rad top off but the 94 ZF 5HP 18 box has a different connector to the 91 ZF 5HP 18 box I have the complete 94 car, and have fitted the seperate loom from the sports/economy/snow button, kick down switch, up under the bonnet and clipped to the 94 wiring, but the loom on the 91 still has the plug hanging down where it should have been plugged into the back of the box. Is there any way to make the later ZF 5HP 18 work in the earlier car? Any help would be greatfull appreciated thanks Pawl

beelzebubs 0 Report post Posted June 5, 2008 (edited) Failing any advice on the above car was towed back, At around 60mph, for 160 miles, had any one had any joy with reusing a box after a simmilar tow, or are they very fragile like old ford boxes? just saying this as I know you are supposed to tow in neutral with the engine running at no more than 25 mph for no more than about 3 miles. I have 4 options get it working take a chance on the old box find a manual box for this one as well or stick a rover v8 under there as I say, I have the complete 94 to take parts from, so far i got it down to seats carpets and dash out to get to look at all the wiring. jochen 4 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 LOL, not a very talkative lot on here, or do you really just want to see me suffer Do you have the ETM documentation for both cars? ETM = original full BMW wiring information, as interactive PDF files. Would make life easier for you...
CamB 48 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 (edited) So the '91 plug won't work with the '94 box? Or the boxes are so different the '94 doesn't have the plug? Rover V8 is very 80/90s conversion - the new hot ticket is the Toyota/Lexus V8 - usually about $1000, 250hp and come with a free auto trans. Not getting an answer to a very specific technical question for 20 minutes is not "quiet"! Edited June 6, 2008 by CamB

beelzebubs 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 sorry bud but you are o the other side of the planet to me, but thanks no the problem is at the mo is the car thinks there is no box connected due to the earlyier box having the bowes ecu in the car, and the later car having the ecu in the engine bay on the 94 loom. only put that question in after 10 mins due to there being 18 people viewing the thread and no one saying nowt wasnt a dig basically, this plug hanging down, I need to know if there is any way of bridging any contacts on that plug to make the car think there is a box attached, hance putting the power from the cars loom to the gearbox ecu under the bonnet does that make sence? beelzebubs 0 Report post Posted June 6, 2008 i have boxes from all years . what do you need to match the engine. 021433600 the othere side of the world was in relation to the above quote I got to the point where I have nigh on dismantled my own 525ise to get this car working, i was going to swap the dashtops with the gearbox loom attached, but I had a look at the connectors on the 91's bulkhead, and even that was different.... so It's now up on ebay as M50 vanos engine, comes with free 1991 525ise touring 9 months tax and test
