m20b25 - noisey injectors

Recommended Posts

The "tappet noise" in my e30 has been slowly getting louder, so I decided its time to adjust, but before I got stuck in I had a listen to the injectors with a srewdriver and sure enough they are the culprit.

Are they worth taking out for a clean, or should I throw some new ones at it?

If new, what are my options for replacement keeping in mind that in the future the engine will be receiving around 8psi of boost.

Cheers.

unless you go after market ecu any injectors that you put in suitable for 8psi will run too rich normally, it will probably run but you'll foul plugs all the time and get terrible fuel economy.

Best to have them removed & checked on an injector test machine. Can then all be checked for leakage, flow rate, spray pattern making sure all are even & within specs - or confirming culprit/s.

At the same time flushing & cleaning. Best to replace seals & filter baskets while out too.

Most times injectors are servicable without requiring replacement.

Bear in mind also that injectors do always have a distinctive "clicking" when operating.

Hello,

Just curious what you would expect to pay for cleaning injectors?

Cheers

from what I gather and from my poor memory, somewhere between $15-20 per injector for cleaning and flow checking.

depends what you get done, clean and test is around $25 and injector, new seals, caps and filters adds around another $20 per injector. gets pretty pricey if you get 6 completely serviced.

Just have a look in the yellow pages for placed that specialise in fuel injection servicing, if they dont do it in house they point you to someone who does or outsource the work.

We have a machine & ultrasonic bath at work. Charge out at $17 +GST per injector + cost of seals/filters (around $12 from memory)
