kiwi535 538 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Calling Christchurch Bimmersporters.I would love it if one of you guys could go and have a look at the 540 six speed on trademe at the moment. Even better if you have had some e39 experience.I dont need you to make an exhaustive check, but need someone to tell me if its as good as it looks, your own impressions and if possible how it drives, preferably at open road speeds rather than just trundling round the suburbs. If it checks out I might take it further.I have spoken to the owner and have done some preliminary research. Its an SA car first registered inNZ 2001,manf 3/98. jjs 64 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) Not sure about your personal schedule, but from past experience you will only satisfy yourself by looking at it yourself. I tend to get a good feel for a car very quickly, but place more (or less) importance on some factors than others do. If the seller has been pretty honest so far and you think it sounds like a goer, I would risk $100-$200 in flying to Chch this weekend to give it a good going over. I'm sure if you explained this to the seller and got him to email you something saying he would "hold it" until your arrival, it would be all set for you to go... The drive home to Wgtn would be the icing on the cake! Edited June 9, 2008 by jeremy

Agreed Jeremy but this method has worked well for me before. If the car does actually look as good as the pics then i willprolly go for it.But pic can be very deceiving esp of wet cars shot from a distance...If i do it will be a longer drive than chch to picton...I would take some time of and do a circuit of the whole island, with a couple of figure eights thrown in! Jeddy 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 You can get midweek flights on Virgin for $55 from chch/welly and vice versa if you were super keen
crazyarab 6 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 If you are serious about it, I would just get a pre-purchase check from a BMW specialist (chch bmw perhaps). I did this when I was after buying a car in Auckland and was a great investment.
