E36 Turbo

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, i searched around and couldnt find anything on this, i only need a small bit of info,

(be as nasty as you wish most will say its a waste of time, i already know lol...)

i wish to turbo my E36 320i, but im not too sure where to start and who to do the work,

found a kit on ebay, and they will post to NZ,

would this kit be worth it?

as ive never done anything like this, what ecu is best for this kind of job? ive searched on google and link3 (i think) was quite common, will this be all good?

also, chch members, do any of you know who can install it?

anybodys input welcome, thank you.

Edit- cantwork the link thing, if an admin can fix would be helpful lol

have a look here:

http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....showtopic=15593

pretty much same deal as that thread.

link should be fine if it can do vanos,

some quick numbers suggest you'd be looking at over $6K easy to get it over here, replace the rubbish bits in that kit, get more bits made up (downpipe, exhaust, random mounts) ECU, and labour. if you were brave enough to put 10psi through it you might get 250hp at the crank.

Read this for a good start - http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....amp;hl=m3+turbo

And talk to your fellow chch member who has done it to an M3 http://www.bimmersport.co.nz/forums/index....t=0&start=0

Should get you off to a good start

My honest advice would be: don't do it. Turboing my car cost well over 15 grand and it spent 6 months in the shop. And that was all with discounts from friends and labour halved. The worst part is I've still got to spend another 4 grand to put a properly ECU in it and get it tuned and running properly.

Do what Riley did and put a V8 in it, or an SR20DET. If you really have your heart set on turboing the engine in it I can recommend a lot of places in chch that really know their stuff that did work on my car. I even have a turbo exhaust manifold lying around that I will sell cheap :P.

Sell your e36, buy an M10 E30 and turbo that!

with the money you'd spend .. just get an m3.

exactly my train of thought, at the end of the day you will have a more reliable and more valuable car

you can buy 4 door M3's.

Ta B)

Im going to put a rb20-30 into my one at the end of the year, thought it will be less work as the manifold sits on the passenger side of the car

Do a 1JZ - lighter. Adequate (LOL @ 300hp+ being "adequate") power.
