Carbs vs Injection

Has anyone ever considered ditching fuel injection and putting on a set of carbs when useing F/I? Wouldnt it be cheaper to do than messing round with aftermarket ECU's and tuning? What is involed in putting carbs on an M20 for example?

You would still need an ECU like Link to run ignition

I was going to do this on my project car with the M30 engine. Thats on the back burner now.

I believe he means turbo / supercharge Glenn. F/I = forceed induction.

Blow through carbs present a whole new bag of problems.

Carbs operate under vacumn, if youre boosting then what?

Draw through is easier but with less potential.

Injection + turbo wins.

Ooops

I didn't read the F/I = Forced induction

Still applies though, you will still need to run an ECU for ignition on a M20 motronic motor

With F/I i'd still stick with injection.....far more reliable... got to remember detonation = destoyed (eventually)

you can run carbs as Blow-through or draw-through when using FI. But I imagine any decent M20 carb setup is going to cost almost as much as a Link, then you've got to tune the things anyway. you still need an ECU for ignition or stuff around with an MSD BTMs or chip the stock ecu depending on what sort it is.

Just use a full ECU and be done with it.

can be done well,had a mate looking to fit my 280cfm bmw carbie on his VW beetle.had it all worked out.

the details that is.re-jet and a mechanical fuel pump to pump it in as the revs biuld.had to pull out cause of OE plans.

He is VW mad though,and has contacts in the states with guys who run 250HP pre 70's beetles.

Must be a handfull with 30/70 weight distrabution setup

carbs are difficult to use with turbo.

two flavors,

1. draw through (carbs before turbo)

2. blow through (carbs after turbo)

they both have their ups and downs.

but EFI is the way to go with turbo.

I'm not going to write an essay here. do your research. efi will cost you less in the long run. it's easier to tune, more flexible and will get much better fuel economy off boost.

i suppose if you are building turbo racecar then it's acceptable (i'm not saying desirable)

really these days EFI is probably cheaper than carbs. to put together and tune (Fi setup)
