Palazzo 477 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 As per my losing coolant post, I cleaned out the throttle butterfly valve which has given a nice smooth idle when warm. Only problem is, it's slightly too high at about 1k rpm, or even fractionally over. According to Haynes, it's not adjustable. Any ideas? Pushing the throttle spring back against it's stops gives the desired effect, but can't imagine this is the cure? Cheers.

jochen 4 Report post Posted July 6, 2008 Anyone? On the E38 540i M62 engine the idle speed is electronically controlled. Oh - you don't say what type of engine you're taling about - well, maybe it is the same as mine...??? Or maybe not? Who knows...?

Someone might have adjusted the throttle body idle stop or it could be a sticky idle control valve, try cleaning it out with carb cleaner.
Palazzo 477 Report post Posted July 7, 2008 Sorry, M20B25, I think Glenn might be right about the throttle cable, I've probably pulled it too tight. Will try that.
