e28 queries

hey guys,

Wondering about the differences IF ANY, between the m20b25 motor in the e28's and e30's, are they identical?

what differences would there be ?

Are the ones in the e30 better than the old e28 ones ?

From what I've heard and (correct me if I'm wrong) if I remember rightly the E28 525i has the M30 engine at around 150hp while the E28 525ee has the M20B27 engine but runs a 2.7L at something like 120-125hp.

The 325i E30 variant runs an M20B25 170 hp but is only a 2.5L.

Some people mix together the 525e engines with the 325/323/320i engines and produce a 2.7L stroker which put out somewhere between 170-200 hp.

So some variations there in spec.

525e had a m20 2.7L engine .

you can use a e34 525i 88-90 M20 engine for a e30 if needed

ahh got ya, so the engine that youll find in a e30, will definitely be different to the e28 ones.

reason i was asking, some one is giving me a 2.5 litre out of a e28, that is aparantly a m20, so im assuming itll be 525ee,

ok . you will need to swap the sump and oil pick up over too if its from a 525e .

also engine loom will need to be from a e30 early 325i 85-87 etc with the flywheel pick up sensors etc . or convert it to the newer motronic system from the face lift e30 325i and get the ecu reprogrammed .etc ...lots of mucking around , to get it working properly .
