isis 16 Report post Posted August 30, 2008 Hi all, If you're one of the 50+ that was watching the black e30 320i Touring on TM - well i bought it yesterday. I amazed after 20 years the paint is almost flawless, albeit a few scratches. The interior is in pretty good nick as well. the couple who owned it were an older couple and she's driven it for the last 8 years. All those time and they haven't kept a single receipt of what they had done to the car! - hence i was quite sceptical mechanically with the car. But its something i just had to have it! Things that are wrong - - Rear passenger Windows doesnt work - Gear changes feel sloppy - coolant drips - new radiator? - a rattle from the rear somewhere - suspension probably needs some work - tyres are on its last legs Things that will be done in due course - - timing belt - they haven't changed it in the last 8 years of ownership!! Pretty scarry - all fluids - all belts and hoses - spark plugs - Definaltely some poly/m3 control arm bushing - Z3 shifter - suspension, definately some billys! Wish List - new wheels: 14 inch wheels dont cut it - recaro front seats - Mtech 1/2 steering wheel - a kit - An M42 engine when the M20 craps out - a nice matching exhaust system Not new to e30s - i've had an e30 318iS in OZ and that thing was brilliant. I am pleased to have kept the Bentley Manual as it'll be more useful with this touring than it did with the iS i had as it didn't cover the M42. If you guys have tips or know cost of doing some of this work, it'll be appreciated. Can we start with the timing belt replacement and the short shifter? it'll be great compare prices to make sure we don't get rip. cheers

hbmonkeyman 0 Report post Posted August 30, 2008 Lol true, i should think about the M42 conversion for my 318i. I needs a new engine anyway I'm still undecided on what to put in my 320i though, i don't really want to have to do heaps of engine bay mods to get the engine in, so i've scrapped the m50 idea lol But GL with yours, sounds like you're gonna take good care of it i'm 17 and still at school so i don't really have the funds to do anything with my car haha
Cale 36 Report post Posted August 30, 2008 Nice purchase dude! I'm keen on the M42 swap aswell for mine, 'cept like S.J.T.C I'm a poor student. Is it a UK import? Some decent pics of it would be great. Crap ones on TM.

isis 16 Report post Posted September 10, 2008 Car is in to be looked at and the $$ is piling on - Damange so far: Radiator is F@$%#$ - the piping to it is cracked Muffler has a hole RSM are buggered Rocker is weeping a little oil the oil sump plug was tighten so tightly that it screwed it up so much so they had to drill through to remove it To be done - Cambelt and associated bits New Virco Radiator All oils and filters I'll look at the muffler and the suspension in the next few months The engine should be purring quite nicely after this!
