guitarfish 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 My E34 made a flappy, belt broken sound. I pulled up straight away. After I towed it home I took the dizzy cap off and watched while my wife turned the starter over. The rotor didn't turn so I assume the timing belt is broken. Before I go to the trouble of replacing the timing belt is there an easy way of telling if the valves/pistons are OK?
bravo 35 Report post Posted October 15, 2008 M20 is an interference engine, so more than likely some damage will have occurred. To what extent can only really be discovered by removing the head. Hopefully only a bent valve of similar. Or maybe you got lucky. Take it to a quality service shop and get them to take a look before jumping to conclusions.
