E30 325i Rag-Top 2963 Report post Posted December 11, 2009 Now that is what I call a strip and re-build, what a great project!! The only help or advice I can offer is not to rush things and make sure you are totally happy with each stage before progressing. From experience I know that even little details that you are not happy with at the time will mess with your mind forever - no matter how good the end result is. It all looks like it has been done to an exceptional level so far, carry that on and you should be well pleased. Look forward to seeing you and the car on the track! mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted June 24, 2010 got the new suspension all ready to go back in. konis for rear, bilstein for front, cant wait to see them on.
mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 bit of an update, realised the rear shocks are also bilstien, not koni, and have 250lb springs on back and 300lb on front with sports pack dampeners, does this sound right??? also have put the seats in, i know i should have waited, but i just wanted to see them in, and have painted the mounts and the box and diff. have bolted in the front struts just to see what they look like and will put the other bits on next weekend, along with the whole back end assembly going in. then the wheels can go on just to get an idea of the look so far. new pics... mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted June 27, 2010 (edited) if anyone can help with locating a donut for the driveshaft and a suspension arm for the front end that would be great. more pics next weekend. These only show bits in primer but have done the top coats as well. these last photos only done with my phone as the camera died, will get some decent shots during the week. all in black gloss, so it is going to be a very very black car which i know has its own issues, but it looks great. will keep posting as i go on. i am having all the suspension and subframe parts blasted, then powder coated in primer, then 2 coats black, then another 2 coats of 2pot gloss black paint. mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted July 13, 2010 i have painted the motor and box (all black) and i know this is going to bite me in the arse later on, but i love the colour... This will be the blackest of black cars around. The motor and box are together and will be in at the weekend.. so another part will be done of this long rebuild. lots of bits still to get but it is slowly coming together. mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted August 7, 2010 (edited) well, have donew a bit more. i mounted the engine and box after fitting the flywheel and clutch, and fixed all this onto the front cross member, wheeled it under the car and dropped the car down onto it. all done in about an hour on my own. easiest engine fit i have ever done. mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted August 7, 2010 at the same time i have put all new wheel bearings and found a new drivers side control arm, plus fitted the new nolathene bushes to the rear end and have put that back in. just waiting on a couple of replacement nuts and things and i think i can put the wheels back on and at least we can roll it around a little bit. got a whole lot of little bits sorted from Pelican Parts so hopefully they will be here on monday. mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted August 7, 2010 has anyone replaced the front bushes with nolathene?? had a bit of a look and the ones at the front of the cross member are quite large and my efforts at fitting them have been rather frustrating and ended up looking at them and wanting to throw them out the door... hoping to fire the old girl up in a few weeks so if anyone has done a bit of makeshift wiring just to get it going i would really appreciate a bit of help. mikes635csi 4 Report post Posted October 7, 2010 Hey all, a few things have changed on the car, i have managed to get the following done. Engine/Gearbox - all hooked up with new mounts Radiator - new core and fitted with new mounts Driveshaft - new bits and balanced, new hanger bearing, bolted in half shafts - all new boots and checked out bolted in Brakes - i got some rotors from SD which are off a 740 i think 330mm on front and rear but will need a ring on the front, no calipers yet though. Steering - we remounted the steering column after the roll cage changed the positioning and finally have it together to check positioning with seats in. Suspension - have shown a pic here but we have lowered the rear another 75mm and the front a further 50mm so it has completely changed the look. mighty fine now. Panelwork is coming along but will take a few more days and then off for painting. Then some electrics, and the exhaust, then off for the fuel delivery and ecu. Looking at a Link G4 Atom. Will post more pics after the weekend...
